Analysis of Performance Factors According to the Operation of Care Farms

        홍인경,유은하,문지원,이상미,정순진 인간식물환경학회 2023 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.26 No.3

Background and objective: This study was conducted to understand the current status and performance factors ofdomestic agricultural management in order to develop a business model that meets the needs of the times along with thenewly emerging demand for agro-healingMethods: An online survey was conducted on 170 care farming business entities nationwide, and the collected data werefrequency-coded using SPSS Ver.25. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted to extract performance factors, and areliability analysis was performed to verify internal consistency for each factor. Results: The factors that determine the performance of care farms, such as sales and profits, were classified into sevenperformance determinants (X1 to X7). Factor 1 was classified as one factor by grouping X2(excellence in use of animals/plants), X6 (program excellence), X5(quality of facility), and X3 (size of facility) together, and Factor 2 was classified as onefactor by grouping two items, X7 (governmental support) and X1(location) together, showing high internal consistencybetween all Cronbach’s α. The correlation between the factors determining care farm performance did not have statisticallysignificant results between X7 (governmental support), X2 (excellence in use of animals/ plants), and X6 (excellence inprogram), but overall, there was a correlation between items that was statistically significant. A regression analysis wasconducted to determine the variables affecting the performance factors of care farms, and at the 95% confidence level, both the location and sales of care farms were statistically significant. Conclusion: Care farms that provide care farming services were often operated on a small scale because they didn’t havea sufficient base of profit, with the exception of farms operated in connection with former rural education farms. In thefuture, it is considered for care farms necessary to utilize factors of regional differentiation, such as the locational environmentand the characteristics of the region, or to link with multiple targets and institutions in the region.

Color Selection Considering Outdoor Environment - Focusing on the Apartment Houses in Urban Residential District -

        홍인경,이진희 인간식물환경학회 2016 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.19 No.6

This study started with the issue that the criteria for the general image scale used in outdoor color planning are vague and the vocabulary and expressive area of the scale are not accurate. As an exterior color planning guideline, it is required to suggest a sensible image scale, which is an appropriate assessment tool for outdoor environment. We identified psychological attributes of colors and set the color image scale axis as “Soft–Hard” in a vertical and “Warm–Cool” in a horizontal. 26 sensibility languages were finally selected for the image scale through literature review, pre-analysis, and expert evaluation. All types of colors extracted from analyzing over 600 photo images were categorized according to 26 sensibility languages. 3 colors by each sensibility language were finally selected and arranged in the color image scale in accord with the outdoor environment of the apartment houses. The significance of this study is that wide range of color position in the color image scale could be utilized as an effective guideline for actual color planning by upgrading the existing color image scale to a higher level with the color reflecting sensibility language. The result also implies that the development of diversified color palette is required especially for the exterior color planning of apartment houses, and the systematical color design process should be established in order to improve the quality of color environment.

An Exploration of Crops Listed in Gwanhyuji, an Agricultural Book in the Joseon Dynasty for the Promotion of the Diversity of Urban Gardens

        홍인경,채영,이상미,정영빈 인간식물환경학회 2019 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.22 No.4

Urban agriculture, which promotes communication in vulnerable classes and the formation of social networks has been gaining attention with an emphasis on healthy city, elderly-friendly city, safe city and happy city as future keywords about urban life. There is a growing interest in public awareness in many areas such as health, society, economy, and ecology. As an attempt to improve the diversity of urban gardens, this study begins with collecting suitable crops for urban gardens from “Imwongyeongjeji (林園經濟志),” an encyclopedia written by Yoo-Ku Seo, a scholar in the 18-19th century. Out of those recorded in “Gwanhyuji (灌畦志),” 128 kinds of crops with linkage of the historical achievements of the realists who gave their priority to public welfare were selected and 53 crops which had traditionality, historicality, health functionality and popularity were finally selected. The properties (cold, warm, clam) of the selected crops were evenly distributed, and there was no crop that was hot and cool. In addition, the number of crops that have a sweet taste was the highest, followed by spicy and bitter, but there was no salty vegetable, which can be attributed to the fact that 12 namuls (wild vegetables) that grow in seas were excluded in this study since they were not suitable for urban gardens. Urban gardens can be transformed from those that focus on primary production and secondary consumption activities into a new resource that offers educational and traditional values by applying humanities to urban agriculture as a content resource in the era of cultural consilience and convergence. It is expected to satisfy urban residents’ intellectual and participatory needs and to enhance the diversity and utility of urban gardens by applying traditional knowledge to a new model of urban agriculture. We hope that further research will be conducted to develop new types and models of urban agriculture going forward.

Investigation of Necessary Items for Garden Events to Revitalize Urban Communities

        홍인경,채영,이상미,정영빈 인간식물환경학회 2019 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.22 No.5

This study is based on the premise that a garden space is a place that not only requires physical labor but also encourages conversation in the gardening group. We suggest the use of urban gardens as a place to revitalize local communities by promoting people to participate in various event programs. Through the theoretical study, we set the requirements that can be applied to “urban garden events”. We developed measurement items and scales to be used as variables of each construction concept. Our survey was conducted on adults aged 19 and above who visited the 8th Korean Urban Agriculture Expo. Out of total 310 copies of the distributed questionnaire, only 298 effective samples were used in the empirical analysis. We can assume that people want to revitalize local communities based on the fact that 71 (23.8%) participants said they thought the purpose of the event is to achieve unity among residents. Throughout analysis, 15 of the necessary items were confirmed and classified into two factors: image of event (Factor 1) and evaluation item (Factor 2). As a result of verifying the relationship between educational level for Factor 1, age was significant in five items and education level was significant in six items. For Factor 2, four items were effective in relation to education level, while significant results were not found in relation to age. These results are expected to be significant if the intellectual curiosity of the residents is satisfied and the demand base of the urban garden events according to the characteristics of city people is expanded. Based on this study, it is necessary to conduct research on the use of urban gardens as an event with social functions as well as various programs that can be carried out in gardens to build and revitalize the community.

Differentiation of Dopaminergic and Cholinergic Neurons from Mesenchymal-like Stem Cells Derived from the Adipose Tissue

        홍인경,정나희,김주란,도병록,김해권,강성구 한국발생생물학회 2008 발생과 생식 Vol.12 No.1

중간엽 줄기세포를 신경세포로 분화시키기 위해 N2배양액에 bFGF, EGF, dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO)와 butylated hydroxyanisole ( Neural tissue has limited intrinsic capacity of repair after injury, and the identification of alternate sources of neural stem cells has broad clinical potential. We isolated mesechymal-like stem cells from human adipose tissues (AT-MSCs), and studied on transdifferentiation-promoting conditions in neural cells. Dopaminergic and cholinergic neuron induction of AT-MSCs was also studied. Neural differentiation was induced by adding bFGF, EGF, dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) and butylated hydroxyanisole(BHA) in N2 Medium and N2 supplement. The immunoreactive cells for -tubulin III, a neuron-specific marker, GFAP, an astrocyte marker, or Gal-C, an oligodendrocyte marker, were found. AT-MSCs treated with bFGF, SHH and FGF8 were differentiatied into dopaminergic neurons that were immunopositive for TH antibody. Differentiation of MSCs to cholinergic neurons was induced by combined treatment with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), retinoic acid (RA) and sonic hedgehog (Shh). AT-MSCs treated with DMSO and BHA rapidly assumed the morphology of multipolar neurons. Both immunocytochemistry and RT-PCR analysis indicated that the expression of a number of neural markers including neuro D1, -tubulin III, GFAP and nestinwas markedly elevated during this acute differentiation. While the stem cell markers such as SCF, C-kit, and Stat-3 were not expressed after preinduction medium culture, we confirmed the differentiation of dopaminergic and cholinergic neurons by TH/-tubulin III or ChAT/ -tubulin III positive cells. Conclusively, AT-MSCs can be differentiated into dopaminergic and cholinergic neuronsand these findings suggest that AT-MSCs are alternative cell source of treatment for neurodegenerative diseases.

Analysis of Urban Agricultural Effects by Factors According to the Urban Citizens Income Level: Socially Sustainable Effect, Negative Effect, and Economically Sustainable Effect

        홍인경,채영,장윤아,이상미,Jung Nam Su 인간식물환경학회 2018 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.21 No.6

The role of urban agriculture should not be limited as a small-scale crop cultivation activity as it was, but it has to be considered as an entire process of a agriculture activity for the restoration of the city community. This study is based on the assumption that there has been a significant change in urban lifestyle and urban farming preference, considering the overall improvement in standard of living after implementation of five day work week system. It was conducted for urban citizens who were interested in actual urban agriculture for ages 19 and over who visited the Korea Urban Agriculture Exhibition in 2018. Only 115 valid samples were used for the empirical analysis. To analyze the demographic characteristics and effects of urban agriculture, frequency analysis and descriptive statistics were conducted. In order to analyze the reliability and validity of the measurement variables of the effect, the variables that deteriorate the validity were removed and 15 variables of the urban agricultural effect were selected. According to the result of factor analysis, three factors were extracted as follows: socially sustainable effect, negative effect and economically sustainable effect. In order to examine the effects of urban agriculture depending on income level, the one-way ANOVA, which is a statistical technique for verifying differences in the sample means, was performed. The psychological stability of people, the recovery of humanity through communion with nature, and the vitalization of agriculture linked with local agriculture had significant correlations with income level. The negative effect showed no significant correlation with income level. The improvement of the local environment was found to have an impact in relation with income level. We expect that there will be more studies on policies for the new types and models of urban agriculture in order to make it easier for urban citizens to approach it.

Selection of Companion Plants for Pest Control of Cruciferous Crops

        홍인경,윤형권,정영빈,이상미,이상덕 인간식물환경학회 2022 인간식물환경학회지 Vol.25 No.4

Background and objective: This study was conducted to determine the types of pests that occur in spring and autumn on three types of cruciferous vegetables, which are host plants, and investigate the actual effect by selecting companion plants with pest control effects. Methods: This study selected 3 types of cruciferous crops and 17 types of companion plants through literature review to investigate the types of pests and damage index occurring in spring and autumn. After examining the number of pests that occur per 10 plants on a weekly basis, the mean and standard deviation were calculated using the IBM SPSS statistics Ver. 25 program. Results: There was little damage to pests in 17 types of herbs, flowers, and vegetables. When grown together with cruciferous vegetables, 8 types of herbs, 5 types of vegetables, and 4 types of flowers showed little pest damage. In particular, companion plants that suffered less pest damage were catnip, chamomile, thyme, and nasturtium in spring cultivation and thyme, basil, catnip, chamomile, rosemary, and marigold in autumn cultivation. Shoot growth of Kimchi cabbage and white radish in the experimental group planted with vegetables was 148-181% of the control group using conventional cultivation but companion planting with rosemary, nasturtium, and marigold showed less growth than the control group, especially the experimental group planted with rosemary, which showed 45-53% of growth compared to the control group. The companion plants with good growth in the root of white radish were celery, beet, basil, and marigold. There was little difference in the degree of pest damage to crops between the central planting with a few companion crops and the parallel, alternate, and perimeter planting with many companion crops. Conclusion: Pests can be managed effectively with a pest management technique that utilizes the pull effect based on the interaction between frequently occurring pest types and companion plants.
