Faculty in general education institutions play a crucial role in the improvement of general education in higher education. Faculty perceptions about the future of general education could affect the content and quality of such education. This study aims to investigate how faculty from the general education institution anticipate the changes in undergraduate general education ten years from now. The seven faculty members identified the critical factors that could influence the future of general education, and 32 faculty members participated in the survey that analyzed the likelihood of these changes and their potential impact on the university. As a result, eight factors and 35 sub-factors were identified. Among these eight factors, ‘Changes in student characteristics’ was the only one on which faculty agreed, indicating both a high likelihood of change and a significant impact on universities. There was also a consensus among faculty on points such as the expansion of online education, changes in the needs of basic education, changes in the needs of liberal arts education, the expansion of quality management for general education, and changes in student demands for general education. Among the 35 sub-factors, there were 16 factors on which faculty agreed regarding the likelihood of change, with 14 predicted to be highly likely. Similarly, among the 24 factors on which faculty agreed regarding the likelihood of impact on the general education institution, 19 were predicted to have a significant impact. Changes in student characteristics, changes in the needs of basic education, and changes in the needs of liberal arts education were factors that require proactive responses, The expansion of quality management for general education was seen as requiring ongoing management. The expansion of online education, changes in faculty roles, flexible academic systems, and changes in student demands for general education were seen as factors requiring relatively passive responses. Finally, based on the research findings, suggestions for the development of general education in higher education and the limitations of the study were added to the conclusion.
