To investigate the inhibitory effects of Gardeniae fructus water extract on the inflammation and skin barrier damage, both the irradiation of UVB and the application of squalene monohydroperoxide (Sq-OOH) were applied to the backs of experimental animals for 4 weeks. And at the same time experimental materials were applied topically. Six to seven weeks female SKH-1 hairless mice were divided into five groups including normal (N; saline), control (C; UVB+Sq-OOH+saline), vehicle control (VC; UVB+Sq-OOH+vehicle), positive control (PC; UVB+Sq-OOH+0.01% retinoic acid) and experimental (E; UVB+Sq-OOH+Gardeniae fructus water extract) groups, five animals each group. The skin erythema indices for PC and E groups were lower than that of C group. Lipid and water capacities for PC and E groups were higher than those of C group. Epidermis and dermis of C group were remarkably thickened and many inflammatory cells including lymphocytes, neutrophils and macrophages were found compared to N group. Whereas a few inflammatory cells were found in PC and E groups compared to C group. In comparison with C group, PC and E groups showed a relatively well preserved lipid lamellae in epidermis and a relatively much less infiltration of mast cells in dermis or hypodermis. As for the both absolute and relative weight of the spleen, PC group were significantly higher than the other groups. Therefore, Gardeniae fructus water extract could have a considerable inhibitory efficacy on the inflammation and skin barrier damage induced by UVB irradiation and Sq-OOH application.

The purpose of this study was to develop effective exercise program for reducing abdominal visceral fat. The subjects were 10 middle school students of abdominal obese type who were above BMI(24), W/H ratio(0.90), body fat(30%). They were performed abdominal centered aerobic exercise and abdominal massage simultaneously for 4 weeks. The result of the study were as following: 1. Changes in Weight, Waist/Hip Ratio, Body Mass Index There were no significant differences in Weight, WHR, BMI. 2. Changes in Skinfold Thickness There were significant differences in chest, abdomen, subprailiac among 6 position. It is not effect of exercise program but effect of warm-up as walking jogging. 3. Changes in Abdominal Fat Area There were no significant differences in VFA(visceral fat area), SFA (subcutaneous fat area), Total Fat. 4. Changes in Body Composition There were no significant differences in LBM(lean body mass), Body Fat(㎏), Body Fat(%). As the above results, the abdominal centered aerobic exercise and abdominal massage for 4 weeks was no significant effectiveness, Contemplating the results, the study that is prolonged period is needed, because most items showed low variation in numerical value.

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of the mixture oil of peppermint and rosemary on hair growth promotion in a shaving animal model of C57BL / 6 mice. Six weeks old male mice were divided into four groups including normal group(saline), vehicle control group(jojoba oil), positive control group(3% minoxidil) and experimental group(3% mixture oil of peppermint and rosemary in jojoba oil). And they were applied topically with test compounds for 4 weeks. Hair regrowth effect in experimental group using gross and histological examination was remarkable and similar to that in positive control group. Antibacterial effect against Pityrosporum ovale in experimental group using halo test was much more outstanding in comparison with positive control group. Body weight gain and hematological values for experimental group were not significantly different from those for normal group. These results indicated that 3% mixture oil of peppermint and rosemary in jojoba oil can be used practically for hair growth or prevention of hair loss in human beings.

C57BL/6 마우스에서 모발성장 관련 효소 활성도 및 유전자 발현 변동

This study was carried out to confirm whether enzyme activities and gene expression are well correlated to the degree of hair growth in a shaving animal model of C57BL/6 mice. Six weeks old male mice were divided into four groups including normal group(saline), vehicle control group(jojoba oil), positive control group(3% minoxidil) and experimental group(3% mixture oil of peppermint and rosemary in jojoba oil). ALP and γ-GT activities in anagen phase were significantly increased in PC and E groups compared to N or VC group (p<0.05). IGF-1 expression in anagen phase was also significantly increased in PC and E groups compared to N or VC group (p<0.05). The parts and degree of SCF antigen expression were more extensive and stronger in E and PC groups compared to N or VC group. These results indicated that ALP and γ-GT activities and IGF-1 expression in the skin of a shaving animal model of C57BL/6 mice were well correlated to the degree of hair growth and good biomarkers in anagen phase.
