In this study, genetic algorithm is introduced to determine optimal locations of pendulum dynamic vibration absorbers (PDVAs) in vibrating structures. A PDVA is composed of a pendulum and spring-mass system, and aims to attenuate structural vibrations at two resonance frequencies. With the incorporation of genetic algorithm, an optimization method involving non-linear transient analysis is applied to increase the efficiency of PDVAs. Optimization example is solved using the proposed method to demonstrate the effectiveness of PDVAs in suppressing structural vibrations.
