This research pursues contemplation on how vandalism has been evolved in modern public arts and mass media affects value formation of the public on cultural assets and art pieces. In the long history, a vast amount of cultural assets and arts has been created, however the different value of politics, religions and cultures brought about countless acts of vandalism. In 2001, the Taliban destroyed the stone statue of Buddha in Bamiyan, Afghanistan with rocket gun, which is recent well-know vandalism. Also the pillage and arson on the Oegyujanggak, the royal protocol of Joseon Dynasty by French navy in 1866 is also one scene of vandalism in Korean history. Recently various international laws and regulations about prevent of vandalism have been legislated, which decreases the cases of physical vandalism. However in the context of digital revolution the limitlessly duplicated images of cultural assets have been constantly damaged without any sense of ethics in the public arts. Particularly with advanced visual special effects lots of S.F. movies uses destroyed image of universal cultural assets to present more spectacular scenes. In this era, since real images and virtual ones are not able to be distinguished, this kind of image destruction is not mere aesthetic execution nor visual entertainment but genuine vandalism on the images and social value on the original assets. Especially this types of media vandalism in films, the most effective media on the public have to be contemplated and discussed in depth for the proper value formation of adolescents on culture.
