Mesenteric vein thrombosis is an infrequently recognized and rarely reported disease due to its very low incidence and vague clinical symptom. It is appreciated that occlusion of the mesenteric veins not only may complicate a number of disease process, but also may occur without apparent coexisting disease. This disease is common in sixth and seventh decades with 81% of the older patients having associated illnesses. The early diagnosis and prompt surgical intervention with the addition of anticoagulants seem to improve survival rate and to reduce recurrence in spite of high mortality of the disease. We experienced a 58-year old man complaining of diffuse abdominal pain and anorexia, and he was diagnosed as having multiple mesenteric vein thrombosis associated with liver cirrhosis comfirmed by ultrasonogram and CT scan of abdomen. Inspite of intensive medical care, he died due to gastrointestinal bleeding and metabolic acidosis. We present this case with a review of the related literature. Pancreatic duct stones are occasionally seen in the patient with chronic relapsinq pancreatitis. It has various etiologic associations and chronic alcoholism is believed to be the most important etiologic factar among them. Most investigators have considered the panceatic calculi as a complication of the chronic pancreatitis, not as a distinct disease Although the role of pancreatic stone protein is being studied, the pathogenesis of stone formation is not proved. The size of pancreatic stone varies frorn minute, sand-like particles to large solitary or multiplc calculi. The largest stone that has been reported was 4.5cm long. We report a rare case of large staghorn pancreatic duct stone (4.2 cm in length) in a 36-year-old non-alcoholic female without pancreatitis.
