        최자형,김윤경,김희진,윤현서,현경예,이민경,Choi, Ja-Hyeong,Kim, Yun-Kyung,Kim, Hee-Jin,Yoon, Hyun-Seo,Hyun, Kyung-Yae,Lee, Min-Kyung 한국치위생학회 2017 한국치위생학회지 Vol.17 No.5

Objectives: The baobab tree is a multipurpose, widely-used species with medicinal properties and numerous food uses. The aim of study was to evaluate the effect of oral administration of baobab on the formalin-induced inflammatory pain in rat model injected into the orofacial regions. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 260-280 g were used. Pain in the orofacial region was induced using two models, 5% formalin was injected $50{\mu}l$ subcutaneously or $30{\mu}l$ in temporomandibular joint (TMJ), respectively. Rats were divided into 4 groups (n=6); formalin, formalin after distilled water (vehicle) or baobab (150, 300 mg/kg). The number of noxious behavioral responses with scratching the facial region was recorded for 9 successive 5-min intervals following formalin injection. Results:There was no significant difference in the first response to the pain between the formalin induced group and the drug administration group. However, in the secondary infusion group, all of the pain medication were responded (Bao 150, 300 mg/kg) (p<0.05). Conclusions:The results showed analgesic effect of baobab on formalin-induced orofacial inflammatory pain. This suggests that the natural product is an effective alternative to the postinflammatory pain control.

Vol.9 No.4

Objectives: Orofacial pain can be caused by xerostomia, dental procedures, infections, and functional disorders in various areas, and it can greatly deteriorate patients’ quality of life. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the efficacy of natural products in minimizing the side effects of synthetic drugs. Methods: In an experimental model of 4-DAMP-induced xerostomia, formalin was injected to induce inflammatory pain in the orofacial region, and the effects of oral administration of curcumin and cinnamon on pain behavioral response were observed. Results: In the experimental group with xerostomia, the pain response was prominent, which was suppressed in a concentration-dependent manner upon curcumin and cinnamon administration. Conclusions: Curcumin and cinnamon may be useful natural products for relieving the inflammatory orofacial pain caused by xerostomia.

Vol.14 No.2

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of mediating variables on the relationship between job stress and stress response. A survey was conducted to 243 clinical dental hygienists from January 15, 2013 to March 20, 2013 and the data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson.s correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The subjects who worked in poor working environment, had high level of role conflict and overload and aggressive nature showed high stress responsivity (p<0.01). The variable that showed mediation effect on the relationship between job stress and physical discomfort, depression was shown to be personality type (p<0.05). Also, the variable that showed mediation effect on the relationship between job stress and turnover intention was social support (p<0.05). According to the results, personality type and social support were shown to be important parameters when it came to the relationship between job stress and stress response. Therefore, in order to reduce negative outcomes caused by stress, it is suggested to provide an educational opportunity on self-control management while increasing social support from the organizational and structural level. Especially, it is asked to expand the system that provides encouragement and recognition to feel the sense of achievement in the course of their duty execution.

김윤경 ( Yun Kyung Kim ),최자형 ( Ja Hyeong Choi ),이현정 ( Hyun Jung Lee ),손유진 ( Yoo Jin Son ),윤소영 ( So Yeong Yoon ),이정화 ( Jung Hwa Lee ),이민경 ( Min Kyung Lee ) 한국치위생과학회 2015 치위생과학회지 Vol.15 No.4

The aim of this study was to investigate whether peripheral or central administration of triptolide is involved in pain modulation in inflammatory orofacial pain. The inflammatory orofacial pain was induced by the injection of 5% formalin into right vibrissa pad of rats. The pain behavioral response was measured the number of grooming or scratching on the orofacial area for 9 successive 5 minutes intervals. Triptolide was administrated into the identified vibrissa pad (12.5, 25, 50 ug/50 ul) or intracisternal space (0.01, 0.1, 1 ug/10 ul) 10 min before formalin injection. The nociceptive responses were reduced in the 2nd phase (11∼45 minutes), particularly 20, 30 minutes after fomalin injection following administration of triptolide into vibrissa pad (25, 50 ug/50 ul). Intracisternal (1 ug/10 ul) administration of triptolide alleviated the formalin-induced pain behaviors in the 2nd phase, especially 25∼40 minutes after formalin injection. Triptolide could be a promising analgesic agent in the treatment of inflammatory orofacial pain.

        이현정 ( Hyeon-jeong Lee ),김윤경 ( Yun-kyung Kim ),최자형 ( Ja-hyeong Choi ),이정화 ( Jung-hwa Lee ),김혜진 ( Hye-jin Kim ),성미경 ( Mi-gyung Seong ),이민경 ( Min-kyung Lee ) 한국치위생과학회 2017 치위생과학회지 Vol.17 No.1

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain is characterized by persistent jaw pain associated with dysfunction and tenderness of the temporomandibular muscles and joints. The aim of this study was to investigate whether treatment with red or black ginseng extract helps in the modulation of inflammatory TMJ pain. Male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 220∼260 g were used. The experimental group was subdivided into 4 groups based on the treatment method (n=6, each group): formalin (5%, 30 μl), formalin after distilled water (vehicle), formalin after red or black ginseng extract (per oral, single or repeated, respectively). To induce TMJ pain, 30 μl of formalin was injected into the articular cavity under ether inhalation anesthesia. The number of noxious behavioral responses of scratching the facial region proximal to the injection site was recorded for 9 successive 5-min intervals following formalin injection. Repeated treatment with red or black ginseng extract reduced the nociceptive responses in the second phase (11∼45 min). Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is an oxidative stress-mediated transcription factor. Both ginsengs significantly down-regulated the increased Nrf2 level compared to the vehicle group. In the test for liver and kidney functions, repeated treatment with red or black ginseng was not different compared to the vehicle group. These results indicate that red and black ginseng extract might be promising analgesic agents in the treatment of inflammatory TMJ pain.
