Rijndael S-box의 효율적이고 오류검출 가능한 구현 기법

As network speed is increasing rapidly, software-based implementation of cipher algorithms is not enough to transmit the data in core networks. Implementing the algorithms in hardware would be desirable to reduce the processing time. Faults in the hardware may cause interruption of service and fault-based side channel attacks. In this paper we present a cost-effective technique for implementing Rijndael S-box, which is the largest operation of AES. A concurrent error detection scheme based on parity checking is also proposed. We then evaluate hardware cost and performance using Xilinx FPGAs.

The increased bandwidth available in 3G mobile communication systems will enable service providers to support wider applications. Most of these services will demand an enhanced level of security. In recent years several protocols have been proposed to conduct mutual authentication. In this paper, we propose an improved mutual authentication scheme for 3G mobile communication systems. The proposed scheme can provide protection against replay and man-in-the-middle attacks with a reduction in the length of the authentication data to be transmitted. Moreover, the interactions among MS, VLR, and HLR are minimized to reduce the total delay required for authentication.
