This paper presents a circular-polarized RFID reader antenna operating at the UHF band. The proposed antenna consists of an elliptical patch, a coaxial probe feeding the patch, an impedance-matching metallic tuning stub and a ground plane. By adjusting major and minor axes of the patch, the antenna is optimized for a good performance over a large bandwidth. The antenna impedance matching is achieved by using a metallic tuning stub placed close to the feed probe. The antenna optimized using a commercial software is fabricated and its reflection coefficient, gain, radiation pattern, and axial ratio pattern are measured using a network analyzer and a three-dimensional radiation pattern measurement facility. The fabricated antenna shows an excellent performance: a reflection coefficient less than-10㏈ over 857-975㎒, a gain of 9.8㏈ic, and an axial ratio of 2.2㏈.
