        In 1990's, it is often supposed that the new trend of various distribution business is price destruction. The meaning of price destruction, here is not a price sale selling a discounted material during regular terms but the form of selling as a dramatically discounted price everyday and no holiday. Such new store types as discount stores of price destruction have begun to appear in Korean retailing market since November 1993. Since then, they have been growing very rapidly. Having led by a few department stores, supermarkets and conventional markets, the domestic retail arena met a meaningful turning-point with the rising number of discount stores. Cashing on their cutting edge. "so-good' price, to the extent of destructing the existing price structure and marketing structure as well, the discount stores are forecast to gain a rapid growth in coming years, leading the distribution industry expansion. This study focuses on the "low-cost operations” since the factor is the very reason for the creation and survival of discount stores and plays a decisive role in their success and failure. The competitiveness of discount stores will depend on how they effectively combine the low-cost operations and the marketing strategies, and give much satisfaction to consumers. The domestic retail picture will be re-drawn by a few strong play living up to these qualifications.
