Shen Defu(沈德符)’s Wanliyehuobian(萬曆野獲編) is a description of a person and an event, reflecting the numerous figures and various phenomena of the Ming(明) Dynasty. In addition, he has a strong personality to complement political affairs by fairly and objectively describing events or characters that can not be dealt with in an official history. This paper carried out the translation and annotation of Zhengmeng(徵夢) in vol. 28. The stories in Zhengmeng(徵夢) are as exciting as reading a novel like Liaozhaizhiyi(聊齋志異), which is a collection of superstitious and absurd stories. As the title Zhengmeng(徵夢) which means “Dreams Prove to Be True”, this part contains stories related to the dream. It introduces dreams that show or symbolically suggest what will happen in the future, and episodes that take place in reality accordingly. Like the other stories in the book, the story of the characters from Jiajing(嘉靖) period to Wanli(萬曆) period of the Ming(明) dynasty is used as an aid to enhance the credibility of the narrative. Zhengmeng(徵夢) consists of five writings: Jiashuzhuangyuan(甲戌狀元), Yimingyuanzonggao(儀銘袁宗皋), Yaomeng(妖夢), Dongkuangyanshangshu(董曠菴尙書), Mengzongrulin(夢宗汝霖). Among the episodes in Zhengmeng(徵夢), the dreams of Lu Zhongxi(陸中錫), Sun Botan(孫柏潭)’s father, and Shen Defu(沈德符)’s father for Dong Kuangyan (董曠菴) can be seen as a sign of what will happen in the future. And the dreams of Yuan Zonggao(袁宗皋), Zhang Bangchang(張邦昌), Liu Yu(劉豫), Wu Xi(吳曦), Zhang Juzheng(張居正) and Xu Guocheng(許國誠) can be seen as dreams with both warning and preshowing actions that make them prepare for bad results while foreshadowing future events. The five men of Yuan Zonggao (袁宗皋), Zhang Bangchang(張邦昌), Liu Yu(劉豫), Wu Xi(吳曦), and Zhang Juzheng(張居正) did not realize the warning behind their dreams and had no good ending, and Xu Guocheng(許國誠) was able to overcome the difficult crisis because he realized the warning and took action.

Shen Defu(沈德符)’s Wanliyehuobian(萬曆野獲編) details the ancient laws and regulations of the Ming Dynasty, various characters and their anecdotes. This is Biji(筆記), which is unofficial history-based, give assistance to correct mistakes and omissions in Mingshi(明史), Mingshilu(明實錄) and so on. The “funu(婦女)” section in Wanliyehuobian(萬曆野獲編) consists of a total of 30 volumes is the parts of 23 volumes. This paper verifies the academic value by translating seven episodes, “Loujiangsiwang(婁江四王)”, “Huangquwubingbu(黃取吾 兵部)”, “Nulangyinyong(女郞吟詠)”, “Furennengshiyi(婦人能時藝)”, “Dufubujuesi(妬婦不絶嗣)”, “Shenguideshenhou(沈歸德身後)”, and “Yanji(燕姬)”. These seven episodes describe various female images of the Ming Dynasty and deal with female figures of high class and lower level, including women Taoist priest, jinu(妓女) and high-ranking official’s wife. Shen Defu(沈德符) makes records of these women and reveals their positive and negative aspects. This reflects Wanliyehuobian(萬曆野獲編)’s unofficial historicality by shedding light on women’s lives objectively. As above, Shen Defu(沈德符) gives a true-to-life description of women’s lives. They are gaining credibility and empathy from their readers by using literary expressions such as description, analogy, contrast, direct quotation, and effective artistic expression. This is an important part of the study of Wanliyehuobian(萬曆野獲編)’s historical and literary value.

Wanliyehuobian(萬曆野獲編) is a highly regarded academic material for providing valuable materials to researchers in fields such as history and literature. Based on the vast historical data in this book, researchers have been conducting in-depth research. Wanliyehuobian·Guobao(果報) out of Wanliyehuobian’s 28<sup>th</sup> volume consists of 15 episodes. In this paper, the six episodes of “Yelüchucai(耶律楚材)”, “Xianbao(現報)”, “Yuanbao(冤報)”, “Chouguixiali(仇鬼下隷)”, “Huijingzheweimingguan(燬經謫爲冥官)”, “Yima(義馬)” are translated and anotated. In Wanliyehuobian·Guobao(果報), bureaucrats, servants, ghosts, and horses appear in these six sentences, bureaucrats, servants, ghosts, and horses appear to take revenge on those who commit evil deeds. Not only characters from various classes, but also ghosts and animals are the subject of the story, adding interest. It is also expressed as a storytelling that draws emotional empathy through the use of dialogue that gives a sense of reality and liveliness and a structured composition. In particular, it shows a world in which reality and reality coexist through elements such as ghosts and reincarnation. In addition, it has both nightlife and literary values by specifying the witnesses and statements of the story, the year and point of the occurrence of the work, and the situation to increase reliability.
