The photovoltaic system has a difference economic viability according to the economic variables such as the amount of electricity used in the residential building. Therefore. in this study three cases of amount of used electricity such as 351㎾h. 400㎾h. 500㎾h/month in the residential building are analyzed to evaluate the economic viability of photovoltaic system by calculating payback period. In calculating the payback period, the major factors such as initial cost, government support money, interest rate, price rate, electricity charge rate and others are included. And besides, considering the uncertainty in the future risk analyses are also performed using the Monte Carlo simulation.

The photovoltaic system has a difference performance according to the regional location and array tilt angle. In out country, regional insolation has a different characteristic from city to city. Moreover, when installing the photovoltaic system, array angle is one of the important factors which affects the performance of the amount of electric energy produced by the photovoltaic system. Therefore, in this study two cities in our country, namely Seoul and Pusan cities are selected and 5 array tile angles (15, 30, 45, 60, 90°) are compared to evaluate the economic viability of photovoltaic system in buildings by calculating payback period.
