본 연구는 추자면에 속한 무인도서인 관탈섬에서 2009년 10월과 2010년 8월, 3회에 걸쳐 실시되었으며 총 31종이 관찰되었다. 이 중 번식이 확인된 종은 슴새(Calonectris leucomelas), 바다제비 (Oceanodroma monorhis), 매(Falco peregrinus), 섬개개비(Locustella pleskei), 바다직박구리(Monticola solitarius) 등 5종이었다. 천연기념물은 매를 포함하여 새매, 호사도요 등 3종이었고 멸종위기야생 동물은 I급인 매(Falco peregrinus), 말똥가리(Buteo buteo) 등 2종이었다. 그리고 국제적 멸종위기 종으로 Red List에 취약종인 섬개개비가 관찰되었다. 슴새와 바다제비는 주로 북사면에서 번식하였다. 무인도서인 관탈섬에 대해 특정도서로 지정하고 정기적인 조사를 통해 이 섬에 서식하는 생물 을 보호하기 위한 대책이 필요하다. This study was conducted at the Gwantal island off the north of Jejudo Island on October 2009 and August 2010. We observed total 31 species. It was confirmed that 5 species of Streaked Shearwater (Calonectris leucomelas), Swinhoe's Storm Petrel (Oceanodroma monorhis), Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), Styan's Grasshopper Warbler (Locustella pleskei), Blue Rock Thrush (Monticola solitarius) breed at this island. Three species of Natural Monuments and two Endangered Species were observed. The Styan's Grasshopper Warbler defined as a vulnerable species of Red List of IUCN bred in this island. Main breeding sites of Streaked Shearwaters and Swinhoe's Storm Petrels were in the northern slopes of the island. We suggested that the Gwantal island need to be designated as Specific Island of Ministry of Environment for conservation and there should be a construction of system to protect creatures living in this island.
