Robert Morrison(1782-1834) was a pioneer of Protestant missions in China. It was unsuitable circumstance for missionary work in China when he came to China. So he did not work directly for the mission in China. Instead of this, he did work for writing eleven pamphlet of missionary documents and A Dictionary of the Chinese Language. This paper will study and review Morrison's works and come to a conclusion. His work of missionary documents is not a systematic doctrine. Through his writings, we can see his active works and endeavors for evangelization in China. Especially, Doctrine of Jesus in Catechism Form consist of questions and answers in style, while Tour of the World just introduce the world and Christianity. Above all, his Chinese dictionary remained a standard and valuable work for many years. Morrison's works influenced many scholars in U.K and continental Europe. He was a recognized scholar in his days. He has a good reputation for his scholarship from Dr. Vater at the University of Konigsberg and M. Re´musat, professor of Chinese Language at the Royal College of France, and Dr. Baird at the Principal of the University of Edinburgh. He was awarded a degree of Doctor of Divinity for his scholarship of linguistics and Christian education from the Senatus Academicus of the University of Glasgow in Dec. 24, 1817. He was also appointed as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1825. He was a great missionary and scholar for promoting an understanding of China and its evangelization.
