The uni-flow scavenging type two-stroke free-piston hydrogen fueled engine can obtain high efficiency and low emission, simultaneously. In order to develop two-stroke free-piston hydrogen engine, it is necessary to use un i-flow scavenging type and to study about backfire occurrence in the uni-flow scavenging system. In this research, the engine combustion and backfire occurrence were studied by using RICEM for researching combustion characteristics of the uni-flow scavenging two-stroke free-piston hydrogen fueled engine. As a result, the backfire occurrence was affected by the open timing of the exhaust valve, flame speed according to equivalence ratio and coolant temperature, quenching distance.
