Driving at night continues to represent a high safety risk with a significantly higher accident probability. The high night-time accident figures are clearly caused by insufficient illumination of the roadway, particularly at long range. The function of vehicle mounted headlamps was to illuminate the street and surrounding area during night time driving. The detection distance of headlamps is very important to prevent automobile accident at night time. In this study, evaluation of detection distance of headlamps was made using Iso-lux line by computer simulation. Consequently, it is estimated that the detection distance of headlamps will prevent automibile accident at night time.

Blind Spot Detection(BSD) is fundamentally intended to warn the driver against potential collisions when a vehicle is close to a blind spot, and doesn"t take any automatic action to prevent possible collisions. It consists of detection device which detects an existence of objects in the blind spot and warning device which provides the information about the existence. In Korea, the latest vehicles equipped with BSD have been increasing due to consumers" needs and the development of advanced safety technologies. A new assessment method to test BSD should be developed. This study shows the technical trend and the performance evaluation of BSD.
