In this paper, we have studied the images which have been reconstructed by using combination of images
acquired by the variation of operating frequency. When inner images have been reconstructed, they have been
superposed by the surface state effect. In this case, the images of the phase object can be enhanced by the
contrast of inner images. In this experiment, there are two kinds of specimens, one is a reference block having
1/4T, 1/2T, 3/4T side drilled holes as main run piping material of the steam generator in NPPs and the another
is a part of a hemisphere type specimen having about 1-2 ㎜ distance gap. It has been shown that the two
results of defect shapes have better than before in this processing and phase contrast grow about twice. And
we have constructed the acoustic microscope by using a quadrature detector that enables to acquire the
amplitude and phase of the reflected signal simultaneously. Further more we have studied the reconstruction
method of the amplitude and phase images and the enhancement method of the defect images' contrast.

An experimental study on the thermal interaction of the alumina melt with penetration of the reactor vessel
in the APR (Advanced Power Reactor) 1400 has been performed in a core melt accident. The objective of this
study is to estimate failure or non-failure of the penetration including the ICI (In-Core Instrumentation) nozzle
and the thimble tube under the condition of external vessel cooling. Five tests in conditions with external
vessel cooling have been performed to estimate the effects of system pressure, melt mass, and vessel
geometry using alumina (Al2O3) melt as a simulant. The tests results have shown that an increase in system
pressure from 0.9 MPa to 1.5 MPa was not effective on penetration damage, but an increase in corium mass
from 40 kg to 60 kg and a vessel geometry change to flat plate with curvature were effective. In all
experiments, the penetration of reactor vessel was not failed because of external vessel cooling.
