Endotoxin 에 의한 혈전증에 미치는 Propolis 의 효과

Propolis, a natural resinous compound collected from honey bees, contains many biochemical constituents and has been used for traditional medicines as early as 300 B.C. Recently, it has been reported to possess many biological activities such as antibacterial, antiviral, fungicidal, local anaesthetic, immunostimulating, antiinflammatory and free radical scavenging properties. To investigate activities of chrysin, one of propolis effective compounds for blood coagulation system was injected endotoxin (4000 EU/kg, i.v.) in rats at 1hr after administered chrysin (20 mg/kg, p.o.). This study was resulted that chrysin has antiplatelet aggregation activity in vitro, delay of blood clotting time and prothrombin time, and reduction of fibrinogen and FDP in vivo. Chrysin has increased SOD activity, GSH content and GST activity, and decreased MDA content in liver. The result suggests that the antithrombosis effect of chrysin is suppressive activity for a blood coagulation system and antioxidative activity.

In a preliminary screening of plant extracts for the antigastritic and antiulcer actions in rats, the methanol extracts of Taheebo showed positive activity in HCl·ethanol-induced gastric lesion. Among the systematic fractions of hexane, chloroform, butanol and water, the most potent H²O fraction reduced significantly HCl·ethanol-induced gastric lesion at the oral dose of 300 mg/kg. In pylorus ligated rats, chloroform and butanol fraction showed decreases in the volume of gastric secretion and acid output, of which effects were stronger in chloroform fraction. Further assays with hexane, butanol and H²O fraction disclosed that it significantly suppressed the aspirin-induced ulcer. The butanol fraction reduced significantly acetic acid induced ulcer at the dose of 400 mg/kg. The butanol and H²O fraction reduced the malondialdehyde level in HCl ·ethanol-induced gastric lesion. In pylorus ligated rats, chloroform and butanol fraction reduced the malondialdehyde level and in aspirin-induced ulcer, chloroform fraction reduced that level. These results might suggest that the butanol and H²O fraction of Taheebo had inhibitory action in gastric lesion and ulceration through inhibition of gastric acid secretion and the decrease malondialdehyde level.

Carbon tetrachloride (CCl₄) induces the hepatotoxicity due to the reactive free radicals generated by cytochrome P-450 (CYP-450) enzyme, which result in destabilization of cellular membrane. Diltiazem, a calcium channel blocking agent, has been known to suppress the CYP-450 enzyme activities. To study the effect of diltiazem in CCl₄-treated rats, we measured the activities of alanine aminotransferase (ALTS, aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and glutathione S-transferase (GST), contents of bilirubin, albumin, total protein, cholesterol, triglyceride, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine malondialdehyde and calcium. Also we conducted liver histopathologic examinations. Diltiazem, when administered 1 hour prior to CCl₄ treatment, significantly reduced the activities of ALT and AST, the contents of microsomal malondialdehyde and calcium in liver and microsome as compared with those of CCl₄-treated rats. In addition, histopathologic examination showed that diltiazem prevented the development of centrilobular necrosis induced by CCl₄ in liver tissue. Our results suggested that diltiazem could inhibit the formation of free radicals and the influx of calcium. Therefore diltiazem may be applied to suppress the liver damage caused by CCl₄.
2010 남아공 월드컵대비, Eskom사 전력확보 Audit

2010년도 6.11일부터 7.11일까지 남아공에서 개최된 월드컵 축구대회의 성공적 수행을 위하여 전력공급을 맡고있는 Eskom사에서 지난 4.2일 한국전력공사에 발전에서부터 배전에 이르기까지 전력공급 준비상황 전반에 대하여 Audit를 요청함에 따라 동사에 제안서를 제출하고 계약을 체결후 4.24일부터 5.2일까지 남아공 요하네스버그에 위치한 Eskom 본사 및 사업소, 경기장 등 현장방문 및 분야별 담당자 인터뷰, 서류심사등을 통해 발전, 송전, 배전분야 및 통합 위기관리 대응방안 등에 대한 준비상황을 점검하였고 아울러 인원배치계획, 보안 및 전력수요관리 적정성 등 월드컵 대비 전력확보 준비상황 전반에 대하여 Audit하였다. 2002년 완벽한 전력 공급을 통하여 한일 월드컵 축구대회를 성공적으로 수행한 경험이 있는 한전은 남아공 Eskom사에 월드컵 대비 전력확보의 미흡한 부분 및 시정이 필요한 15건에 대하여 권고함으로서 국제사회에 한전의 기술력 및 위상을 제고하는 계기가 되었다.

The protective effect of Carthamus tinctorius L. Semen on the carbon tetrachloride induced liver damaged rats were studied. First, methanol extract was prepared and the extract was fractionated with hexane, CHCl₃, BuOH and H₂O respectively. Animals were divided into 6 groups and each group was treated with each fraction respectively. To investigate the hepato-protective effect of Carthamus tinctorius L. Semen AST, ALT, albumin, TP, cholesterol, TG, creatinine and total bilirubin values were measured in each treated group and compared with those of control group. GST activity was increased in BuOH group compared with the control group. In malondialdehyde levels, all fractions was decreased compared with the control group. In histopathologic examination, hexane and H₂O fractions of Carthamus tinctorius L. Semen observed mild degree of ballooning degeneration. The results show the protective effect of Hexane, CHCl₃, BuOH and H₂O fractions on hepatotoxicity of CCl⁴, by decreasing ALT, AST, bilirubin, cholesterol, TG and BUN. It seems that the decrease of MDA are related to the recovery effect. The protective effects of Carthamus tinctorius L. Semen fractions in hepatotoxic pathogenesis by CCl⁴ was suggested in blood chemistry analysis and histopathologic examination.
