It`s a case of the goat farm reared about 60 heads in Imsil county was outbreak Moniezia expensa infection. And 18 heads of less than 6 month olds goat were died. During the 2005 summer, morbidity and accumulative mortality were more than 60% and 30%, respectively less than 6 month young goat. Most young goat were suffer from diarrhea, severe weight losses, emaciations, and died. In necropsy, there were about 0.7-2.5m of 2-8 adult M expensa in the small intestinal lumen, swollen mesenteric lymph nodes. Slight hemorrhages were seen in lung and moderate hemorrhages were seen in mucous membrane of small intestine. Also various species(Trichostrongylus spp, Haemo-nchus spp, Eimeria spp) of parasite eggs were seen in fecal test. Pasteurella hemolytica was identified in lung by the API kit(Biomerieux Co. Ltd) for biochemical test. The minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) results, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole, erythromycin, tyrosine, gentamycin, enrofloxacin, and norflocxacin were selected sensitive antibiotics.

This survey was carried out to investigate the seroprevalence of antibodies to Neospora caninum in Korean indigenous cattle that was representative livestock raised in Jeongeup province Jeonbuk Korea. A total of 1,162 sera were tested for N caninum antibodies using ELISA(Herdcheck anti-Neospora, IDEXX Laboratories Inc., Westbrook, Maine USA). 15(1.3%) sera were positive by ELISA. A total of 290 farms were tested, 11(3.8%) farms were positive. Among the seroprevalence of cattle according to the areas, 8 of 44 counties were infected N caninum. Sero-positive 11 farms of N caninum antibodies using ELISA test and 62 of 301 sera (20.6%) were infected to N caninum. We found that cattle be raised in Jeongeup province was slightly infected to N caninum. It seems to be infected of N caninum an early stage, but the positive rates was variable that it was 6%~62%. It was supposed to the highest positive rate of 3 farms had some factors to be infected. The factors were supposed to keep dogs yearly, located the base of hills, and almost feed with imported dried grass. Farmers suppose to the cause of abortion was not the neosporosis but also broke out an accident or was infected Brucella spp. The results of Brucella Rose Bengal Test(RBT) were all negative.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) occurred in the breeder duck farms in Jeonbuk of in Korea on January to February 2014. Clinically, the most ducks showed various signs from depression, dropped egg production and feed consumption to even, death. The most commonly gross changes were hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, petechial and ecchymotic hemorrhage on the liver surface, a white stripe on the cardiac muscle, multifocal hemorrhagic foci in pancreas, and severely hemorrhagic embryos. The most significant signs of H5N8 virus was supposed to specific on ducks. The viral antigen was mainly detected in the endothelium of blood vessels of various organs and tissues, peripheral nerves, and neuronal cells. Based on the above results, we identified that HPAI H5N8 induced systemic infection in the adult breeder ducks.

Clostridium chauvoei is the etiologic agent of blackleg, a high mortality rated disease infection mainly cattle. In the present study, the partial sequences of 16S rRNA and flagellin gene of C. chauvoei isolated in Jeonbuk, Korea were determined and compared with those of reference strain. Oligonucleotide primers were designed to amplify a 811 bp fragment of 16S rRNA gene and 1229 bp fragment of flagellin gene. Sequencing analysis of 16S rRNA gene showed high homology to the reference strains ranging 82.3% to 100%, while flagellin gene were different from published foreign clostridia, showing 98.7% to 72.0% nucleotide sequence homology. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene revealed the close phylogenetic relationship of C. chauvoei and C. septicum in cluster I, which includes C. carnis, C. tertium, C. quinii, C. celatum, C. perfringens, C. absonum, C. botulinum B. Phylogentic analysis also revealed that flagellin gene formed a single cluster with C. chauvoei, C. septicum, C. novyi A, C. novyi B, C. tyrobutylicum, C. acetobutylicum. The genetic informations obtained from this study could be useful for the molecular study of C. chauvoei.

In this study two stage investigation was used for seroprevalence of Neospora caninum in cattle between January, 2005 and November, 2007; first stage was to examine positiveness of the farms selected randomly, second was to test all individual cow in positive farms. A total of 850 sera were collected from 170 farms for the first stage, and positive rate of farm and head were 23.5% (40/170farms) and 7.5% (64/850heads), respectively. Seroprevalence of Holstein cattle was much higher than that of Hanwoo. In second stage positive rate of cow was 18.9% (246/1,303 head), but seroprevalence of farm was very variable(1-90.5%). It was supposed that 3 farms with high positive rate had some risk factors to be infected; raising dogs in the same farm, location of hill-side where is easy to contact with wild animals.

The prevalence of Coxiella burnetii in native Korean goats in Jeonbuk province was investigated using ELISA (sera) and PCR (vaginal mucus). A total of 798 blood samples from 189 farms were collected in 2013 and 2015. Sero-prevalence was 13.6% in 2013 and 15.7% in 2015. Tracking survey of six seropositive farms on the prevalence of C. burnetii was conducted. 137 (41.4%) out of 331 goats were seropositive and 47 (17.6%) out of 267 goats were positive in PCR. The higher seropositivity observed in adult goats and female goats significantly, the seroprevalence of C. burnetii was higher as age increased (<1 y=13.2%∼≥5 y=100%)(P<0.05) and female goats (44.8%) was higher than male goats (24.1%) on the seroprevalence (P<0.05). 21 (7.9%) goats positive in PCR was seronegative. The prevalence of C. burnetii in native Korean goats in slaughter house was 30.0% in ELISA and 11.5% in PCR. Significantly, female goats (62.8%) was higher than male goats (12.3%) on the seroprevalence (P<0.05). Based on these data, C. burnetii was easily exposed in domestic animals: native Korean goats-related areas such as farms and slaughter house.

A novel enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) is described and compared with other established serologic tests for bovine brucellosis, namely the rose bengal test(RBT), the complement fixation test(CFT), and the tube agglutination test(TAT) approved and used in Korea. A total of 109 bovine serum samples were tested using all the 4 assays and analyzed as to specificity, sensitivity, reproducibility and predictive value. The ELISA showed 100% agreement with the CFT. The least agreement between ELISA was observed with the TAT. The agreement between the ELISA and the RBT was not significantly different from that observed between the CFT and the ELISA. It is concluded that the new assay would be a good candidate for routine serologic survey for brucellosis in Korea. A protocol combining the ELISA and the CFT would increase the power for detection of serologically positive individuals and herds.
