A thermal overload relay is a device that transmits the off signal to the magnetic contactor before an<br/> electric motor or machine is damaged due to over current. Such a relay generally uses a reversal mechanism<br/> to change rapidly the steady state into the configuration for transmitting the off signal. Here, the mechanism<br/> consists of a flexible flat spring and coil spring. Also, in such a relay, the bimetal used to compensate for the<br/> effect of surrounding temperature acts like a flat spring. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of the relay<br/> mechanism with a reversal mechanism is modeled and analyzed using ADAMS. The flexible flat spring is<br/> modeled using a beam element and its model is verified through the free vibration experiment of the spring.<br/> Comparing the simulation results of the relay with experimental responses, the derived dynamic model is<br/> verified.
