私家園林이면서도 湖南詩壇의 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있는 소쇄원은 한국의 전통적인 원림이다. 소쇄원은 ‘修學의 공간’이고 ‘遊戱의 공간’이며, ‘사색의 공간’이면서도 ‘迎客이나 送客의 공간’이다. 소쇄원은 호남의 격조높은 文士들이 세상물정을 잊어버리고 文雅한 마음의 즐거움을 만끽했던 별서명원(別墅名園)이기도 하다. 소쇄원에서는 수많은 문인들이 문학작품을 지었는데, 이러한 작품들은 조선 중기에서 후기까지의 소쇄원의 문화를 탐지할 수 있는 자료를 제공해 주었다. 또한 이러한 작품들은 『瀟灑園事實』에 기록되어, 호남시단의 문화를 연구하는 기본적인 자료가 되고 있다. 소쇄원에 대한 문학적 논의는 기존에 많이 진행되었다. 하지만 소쇄원의 초기 작품에 대한 연구는 여전히 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본고에서는 소쇄원 초기 시단의 작품을 통해 초기 시단 문인들이 소쇄원에서 이룬 삶의 모습과 소쇄원은 그들에게 어떠한 의미를 부여하고 있었는지를 살피고자 한다. 美濃紙는 일본 岐阜縣에서 생산하는 전통적인 和紙이면서도 한국에서 자주 사용되는 생활용품의 하나이다. 미농지가 언제 한반도에 들어왔는지는 확실하게 알 수 없으나 그에 대한 愛用은 문헌자료에서 종종 확인된다. 미농지의 産地인 岐阜縣은 과거 江戶시기의 美濃州와 飛彈州 등 지역을 포함하고 있다. 특히 미농주의 경우, 조선 후기 通信使 一行에 있어 자못 중요한 지역임을 기록물을 통해 알 수 있는데 그 이유는 통신사 일행이 미농주의 館舍에서 밤을 보내면서 수차례의 唱和가 이루어졌을 뿐만 아니라 미농주 또한 大阪으로 가는 길목에 놓여있었기 때문이었다. 하여 통신사로 일본에 갔다 온 조선 후기 文臣들은 미농주의 지리와 특산품을 소개하면 항상 미농지를 언급하고 있다. 미농지는 미농주와 자주 함께 등장한다. 대체적으로 통신사 일행이 미농지를 선물로 받은 경우, 일상생활에서의 미농지 用途, 지어는 미농지를 淸나라 지식인에게 선물로 줬다고 한 것이 기록물의 주된 내용이다. 그만큼 미농지가 조선에서 어느 정도로 유행했는지를 가늠하게 할 수 있다. 총적으로 미농지는 통신사가 일본으로 왕래하면서 江戶시대의 관리들에게서 받은 문화적인 상징물에 불과할지 모르겠지만 이는 조선시대의 생활문화에 적지 않은 영향을 끼쳤을 뿐 아니라 당시 양국 간 생활문화의 한 면모를 살펴본다는 점에 있어 본고는 중요한 문화적인 의의를 갖고 있다고 필자는 생각한다.
