This paper presents analysis on electromagnetic losses of PM synchronous motor/generator for electrodynamics energy storage system. Electromagnetic losses presented in this paper are iron loss, rotor loss, copper loss and conductor eddy current loss, In the electrodynamics energy storage system, these losses decrease power of motor/generator and generate heat. Therefore, in order to estimate losses, this paper suggest analytical methods for each loss.

In high speed applications, the slotless permanent magnet motors appear an attractive solution, being almost intensitive to magneto-motive force harmonics and to pulse width modulation(PWM) current ripple and exhibiting lower stator iron losses and rotor losses (significant with square wave current control). In this paper, performance characteristic analysis of slotless synchronous motor/generator with Halbach array magnet will be dealt.

Flywheels can be used to store energy for power systems when the flywheel is coupled to an electric machine. In most cases, a power converter is used to drive the electric machine to provide a wider operating range. This paper deals with Characteristic analysis on permanent magnet synchronous motor/generator according to driving method for flywheel energy storage system. The suggested driving methods are square wave voltage driving and six-step voltage driving. In conclusion, speed and current characteristics according to DC input voltage with both driving methods.

This paper deals with characteristic analysis of Halbach array Magnetized permanent magnet Synchronous Machine with Air-cored stator for flywheel energy storage system (FESS). For deriving characteristics such as flux density, back electromotive force (back-EMF) and torque, electromagnetic field analysis based on space harmonic method is performed. Also, eddy current loss analysis and copper loss calculation are performed.

This paper deals with Performance characterisitic analysis of PM synchronous motor/generator for electrodynamics energy storage system. The design specification of PMSM/G suited for electrodynamic energy storage system is determined through the electromagnet characteristic analysis such as space harmonic method and finite element method. After then, we predict operating torque in accordance with electromagnet losses and evaluate performance characteristic of PMSM/G for electrodynamics energy storage system through the dynamic simulation.
