Differences between the nominal plant and the actual plant are caused by parameter uncertainties and external perturbations in the actual control system. Disturbance observer-based controllers have been widely used in various control applications to compensate plant uncertainties and reject disturbances. This paper addresses a proportional-integral observer design that can increases controller robustness. The performance of proposed controller are confirmed through simulation using a PMSM. As a result of the simulation, the conventional PI controller loses control performance and fails to achieve the control goal when various disturbance are applied to the system. But the proposed controller robustly achieves the control goal even in the parameter uncertainty and disturbance.
