본 논문에서는 우리나라 산업을 수입경쟁의 정도에 따라 수입경쟁이 매우 심한 산업(high-import competing), 중간 정도의 수입정쟁을 가진 산업(mid-import competing), 그리고 수입경쟁이 비교적 덜한 산업(low-import competing)으로 구분하여 수입경쟁의 정도와 비자발적 실업자의 특징 간에는 어떤 관계가 있는지를 분석하였다. 주요 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째 수입경쟁의 정도가 심할수록 평균연령이 높고 수입경쟁의 정도가 심한 산업으로부터의 이직근로자 평균근속기간이 길게 나타났다. 둘째, 이직근로자의 학력수준 그리고 직종과 수압경쟁의 정도와는 특별한 관계가 없는 것으로 보인다. 셋째, 수입경쟁의 정도는 이직근로자의 재취업확률, 실업기간, 재취업시 소득손실의 정도 등과도 특별한 상관관계가 존재하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 실업 후 노동이동을 분석한 결과 일반적인 예상과는 달리 high-import competing 산업 소속 이직근로자의 약 70%가 제조업에 재취업하였으며, 소매업과 개인서비스업에 재취업하는 비중은 약 4.5%로 매우 낮게 나타났다. Based upon the degree of import competition, we categorize the Korean industries into high, mid, and low-import competing industries and study the relationship between the degree of import competition and the characteristics of involuntary laid-off workers. We find that the higher the import competition, the older displaced workers and the longer their job tenure. Next, there is no clear relationship between the degree of import competition and the education attainment or the occupation of displaced workers. Furthermore, there is no distinct correlation between the degree of import competition and the probability of reemployment, unemployment period, or the extent of income loss when reemployed. Contrary to common belief, about 70 percent of displaced workers from the high-import competing industries are reemployed in the manufacturing sector, while only 4.5 percent of them are reemployed in retails and individual service businesses.
