본 연구는 한국춤사에 40년을 차지한 창무회의 미래 발전적인 방향을 모색하기 위해 창무춤이 예술적으로 어떻게 실천되는지, 그동안의 작업사례를 바탕으로 그들이 표현해내고 있는 춤성향을 알아보는 데에 연구목적이 있다. 그 중 창무춤에서 가장 잘 드러나는 춤성향을 5단계로 정리하여 창무회의 춤메소드를 들여다봄으로써 그 이론정립을 통해 창무춤의 독자성을 규정하고자 하며, 이는 창무춤의 성향을 알아보고자 함이다. The purpose of this study is to examine dance tendency shown by Changmu dance that the Changmu Arts Center which accounted for 40-year Korean dance history has expressed based on the work examples and how it is artistically practiced to seek its futuramic and developmental direction. It tries to define Changmu dance`s identity by founding the theory as its dance methods are checked by classifying the dance tendency which is very well shown in it among Korean creative dance into 5 stages. And it is conducted to examine Changmu dance`s tendency.

창무회는 1976년 12월 발족되어 한국창작춤의 새로운 현대적 춤어휘의 창조와 함께 오늘날 시대의 요구를 충족시키기 위한 노력은 물론, 오랜 세월동안 꾸준히 한국춤의 현대화 작업으로 이어온 단체이다. 창무회의 미래 지향적인 발전방향을 모색하기 위해 본 고찰을 통해 창무춤에 대한 미래 지향적 의미와 그동안의 창무춤 활동에 대한 창무춤에 내재된 현대화작업의 긍정적 의미를 되짚어 보는 것에 의의를 두며, 그 긍정적 정신이 사회적으로 예술적으로 어떻게 발전되어 왔는가를 살펴보고자 한다. 이에 본 연구는 창무춤은 단순한 전통춤의 재현이 아니라는 점과 미학 상의 방향에 있어 현대성의 수용을 의도하고 있지만 신무용과는 다른 이전 시기의 춤과는 확연히 구별되는 점을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 본 연구에서는 창무춤 활동에 있어 현대적 작업들의 근거로 기록하는 데에 의의를 두었지만, 후속 연구에서는 현재 활발하게 전개되고 있는 창무회 단원들이 이루어갈 현대성에 기반한 창무의 실험성과 도전에 대한 다양한 양상에 대해 살펴보는 연구가 되길 기대한다. Established in December 1976, Changmu dance company had since given fresh air to the world of Korean creative dance and had continued to focus on modernizing Korean dance in order to satisfy the needs of the present time. To seek future-oriented directions for the development of the company, this paper put importance on reviewing some positive effects of its modernization which was implied in Changmu dance and its future-oriented meanings. Furthermore, it also investigated how such positive spirit had developed socially and artistically. As a result, it was found that Changmu dance was not just the revival of traditional dances and had an intention of accepting modernity in terms of aesthetics but nevertheless quite distinct from the previous dances not like New Dance. In addition, this study had the meaning of recording modern works of Changmu dance activities but it was expected that it would help follow-up studies to research various aspects of challenges and experiments based on modernity which members of Changmu dance company would positively achieve.
