무속에서 무구는 신을 상징할 뿐만 아니라 그 의례의 성격을 보여주는 객관적이며 물질적인 실체가 된다. 충청 지역의 앉은굿에서 가장 많이 쓰이고, 두드러지는 특징을 보이는 무구(巫具)가 바로 위목(位目)과 설경(設經)이다. 위목은 앉은굿 법사가 신봉하는 신령의 이름을 적은 것이며, 설경은 환자의 치료를 위한 병경(病經)을 할 때 경청(經廳)에 설치하는 종이무구이다. 이러한 설경(設經)은 굿을 의뢰받은 법사가 환자의 집에 가서 직접 제작하는 것이라야 굿의 효과도 볼 수 있다. 충청 지역 법사들에게 종이 무구 제작 자체가 곧 독경(굿)의 시작이기도 하다. 환자 치료를 위한 병경은 앉은굿의 성격과 구조를 보여주는 총체이며 절정이라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 병경을 구성하는 중요한 물질 요소가 설경이므로, 그 의미와 성격이 곧 앉은굿의 성격을 보여주는 한 단면이 된다고 할 수 있다. 앉은굿 법사들에게 있어서 가장 중요한 요소는 무엇보다도 경문이다. 법사의 사귀 구축행위는 경문에 나와 있는 내용을 실현시키는 것이다. 법사가 제작하는 설경(設經) 또한 경문을 토대로 신령과 굿의 목적에 맞게 제작된다. 본 논문에서 사례로 삼은 김요천 법사의 설경은 옥추경과 관련된 수문과 부적, 기문축사의 일부 내용이 설경으로 제작되는 과정 자체로서 옥추경이 송경된 것으로 이해할 수 있다. Gears and objectsused in shamanistic rituals are invested with special meaning. They are not only symbols of divinities, but also objective embodiments of a ritual and its purposes. Two of the most representative ritual objects used in anjeun gut are the wimok, a sheet of paper with the name of a divinity written on it, and seolgyeong, an ornamental article also made of paper. The wimok contains the name of a particular god, usually one that is worshiped by the officiant of the ritual. The seolgyeong, meanwhile, is an ornament used during a healing ritual (byeonggyeong), to decorate the patient's room in which shamanistic scriptures are read. Seolgyeongare believed to be most effective when they are crafted by the shaman in the patient's own home. As a matter of fact, for officiants of the dokgyeongritual in the Chungcheong region, the making of these paper articles constitutes the beginning of the healing session. The byeonggyeong for healing patients is the crystallization and culmination of this ritual. The seolgyeong, insofar as it is the principal material component of the byeonggyeong, can offer important clues about the meaning of anjeun gut, as well as its profound characteristics. The most important ritualistic instrument at the disposal of an officiant of anjeun gut is scriptures. During the exorcism, the officiant chases away evil spirits by performing acts described in shamanistic scriptures. The officiant also makes the seolgyeongbased on the instructions provided in the same scriptures and the specific purposes of a shamanistic ritual. The seolgyeong studied in this paper was made by a shamanistic practitioner named Kim Yo-cheon. Acts such as placing ritual objects related to Okchugyeong like sumun and bujeok and making seolgyeongcan be all understood as different ways of tapping the healing power of this scripture.
