As growth of operational complexity in power systems, necessity of information exchange between automation systems such as EMS, SAS, DAS and importance of reusable application has been increased. This paper proposes a new architecture of the IEC61970 based user interface in SCADA systems. In order to verify feasibility of the proposed architecture, SVG file based graphic exchange testing between automation systems has been performed.

DAS(Distribution Automation System) is equipped with several software applications such as service restoration, loss minimization, and protective relay coordination. The software applications of DAS are very sensitive to the amount of section load being carried by a particular section of distribution lines. Moreover, each software application requires a different parameter of the section load according to its purpose. Therefore, This paper proposes a new section load management method using real-time measurement data of the distribution lines. In order to provide accurate data to DAS applications, this method considers section loads in terms of the relationship of power versus time. In order to establish that the proposed method is feasible, a performance-testing simulator was developed, and case studies were conducted for a modified real distribution network.

A single line diagram is a graphic user interface to represent electrical connectivity between power equipments in distribution automation systems. This paper proposes a new single line auto-drawing technique based on the service oriented architecture. Web service, CIM(Common Information Model) and SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) are adopted to implement SOA concept. A web service demo system was established which is configured with the service provider, consumer and broker to verify the feasibility of this study.

Outage areas can be transferred to adjacent feeders to restore power supply in case of the fault on the distribution system. Feeders in the small island or mountain area may not have backup feeders due to the low density of load. In this weakly meshed open loop system, BESS can be used as a backup feeder to improve reliability of power supply. This paper proposes a new network reconfiguration method for BESS based service restoration. Fuzzy decision making technique is adopted to deal with fuzziness of service restoration planning rules. Case studies using KEPCO real distribution system have been performed to verify feasibility of the proposed method.

Daily load pattern of each part of distribution line is the most important data for distribution operation applications such as service restoration, protection coordination and network reconfiguration. Since distribution system is operated based on the events driven, a periodic state estimation is not an essential function in DAS. Voltage and current data from the FRTUs(Feeder Remote Terminal Units) are measured sparsely and irregularly. This paper proposes a new method for generating daily load pattern of the sections based on incomplete voltage and current data set from the historical database. Matlab simulation case studies has been performed to verify the feasibility of the proposed method.

Distribution systems are operated in radial structure, but temporal loop structure could be founded the live load transfer. Main purposes of reconfiguration of distribution network are load balancing, loss minimization and voltage drop maintaining. In the loop structure, huge loop current can be flowed between two substations in case of large voltage angle difference. Protection devices of distribution line can be triped by this huge loop current. So, precise calculation of loop current is very important for secure switching. This paper proposes a novel calculation method of loop current using the voltage angle differences measured at the tie switches. Feasibility of the propose method has been verified by various case studies based on Matlab simulation.

Most of the applications for distribution system operation highly rely on the voltage and current managements from the field devices. Voltage from the remote controlled switch contains unacceptably large measurement error due to the nonlinear characteristics of the bushing potential transformer. This paper proposes a new voltage magnitude estimation method by calculating voltage drop using current measurement, line impedance and loads deployment data. Contract demand power and pole transformer capacity managed by NDIS are used as a key element to improve accuracy of the proposed method. Various case studies using Matlab simulation have been performed to verify feasibility of the propose voltage estimation method.

When a fault occurs in the distribution feeder, the distribution system operator recognizes the state of the system and makes a restoration plan to deal with the fault based on alarms delivered to the ADMS(Advanced Distribution Management System). It is difficult to rapidly determine the system operating condition because numerous alarms due to the fault are generated at the same time. This paper presents a method to detect a fault on the distribution feeder considering the situation where a lot of alarms are delivered to the ADMS. The proposed method supports distribution system operators to intuitively determine the situation by analyzing and filtering the characteristics of field alarms. By processing alarms sequentially and designing different processing algorithms according to their characteristics, faults can be rapidly determined. To verify the feasibility of the proposed fault diagnosis method, case studies have been performed in various fault conditions.

Loop system arrangement in the primary distribution system has been increased for higher reliability of power supply to the customer. This paper presents a new fault calculation method for the loop structured unbalanced distribution feeders. Mathematical modeling method of the distribution system and superposition principal based fault calculation procedures are provided. In order to establish feasibility of the proposed method, various case studies have been performed using Matlab power system toolbox.
