자녀의 문제행동 관련 부모면담에 참여한 부모들의 경험과 요구

본 연구의 목적은 자녀의 어떤 행동을 부모가 문제행동이라고 여기고 있으며 자녀의 문제행동과 관련된 부모-교사 면담에 참여하면서 어떠한 경험을 하였고, 효율적인 문제행동 관련부모면담을 위한 요구는 무엇인지에 대해서 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 유아교육기관에 자녀를 보내는 어머니 11명을 대상으로 심층면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 어머니들은 형제·자매와의 관계에서 자녀가 공격적 행동을 보일 때, 부모가 통제하기 어려운 심한 고집을 부릴 때, 대인관계에서 어려움을 겪거나 감정 조절을 하지 못하고 극단적인 방법으로 감정을 표출할 때, 그리고 남에게 피해를 주지는 않지만 자신에게 피해가 되는 부적절한 행동을 보일 때 이를 문제행동이라고 여기는 것으로 나타났다. 자녀들이 보이는 문제행동은 유아교육기관에서는 잘 나타나지 않고 가정이라는 맥락에 국한되어 나타나는 경우가 많아서 문제행동 지도 과정에서 유아교사의 도움을 받기가 어려운 것으로 드러났다. 둘째, 어머니들은 자녀를 키워본 경험이 있는 교사와의 상담을 선호하였고, 자녀의 문제행동에 대해서 교사가 먼저 알려주는 경우에 이를 긍정적으로 받아들이고 있었다. 반면, 자녀의 문제행동에 대해서 교사가 잘 알지 못한다고 느끼는 경우에는 교사와 상담을 이어가지 않는 것으로 나타났고,자녀의 문제행동을 지도하는 과정에서 많은 어려움을 경험하고 있는 어머니들은 전문가의 구체적인 조언과 도움을 요구하였다. This study examined parents’ perceptions of children’s behavioral problems and their experiences of parent-teacher conferences regarding these problems. In-depth interviews conducted with 11 parents of young children revealed that the mothers experienced difficulties when their children showed aggressive behaviors toward their siblings, expressed extreme stubbornness, had difficulties in peer interactions, or picked up bad habits. The mothers found that their children’s behaviors in kindergarten were quite different from their behaviors at home, making it difficult for them to discuss their children’s behavioral problems with their kindergarten teachers. In terms of parent-teacher conferences regarding children’s behavioral problems, the mothers preferred to consult with teachers who raised their own children and who informed the parents promptly about their children’s behavioral problems so that they could take actions in a timely manner. In contrast, the mothers distrusted teachers when they felt that the teachers were not aware of the children’s misbehavior or did not take it seriously. The results of this study revealed that mothers experienced difficulties in guiding their children’s behaviors and that they require practical advice from early childhood professionals.
