희곡 <팜>은 유전자 재조합으로 태어나 남의 장기를 대신 키워주며 살아가는 소년의 일대기를 그린다. SF 소재를 전면적으로 내세운 이 연극은 작가이자 연출가인 마쓰이 슈에 의해 2014년에 초연되었고, 이후 김정 연출로 한국과 일본에서 공연되어 다시 주목을 받았다. 마쓰이 슈는, 돼지 몸에 인간의 장기를 배양할 수 있다는 뉴스에서 영감을 받아 이 희곡을 집필했다고 밝힌 바 있다. 평소 극단적인 상황 속에 일상의 다이얼로그를 대입시키는 방식으로 기괴함을 만들어냈던 작가 마쓰이 슈는 <팜>을 통해 SF 소재에 도전했다. 초연 이후 재생의학 분야는 빠르게 발전해, 이와 같은 이종 간 장기이식이 현실화를 앞두고 있다. 극적 설정에 불과했던 과학기술이 시간이 흐름에 따라 다르게 해석될 수 있다는 점에서, 그의 SF적 상상력은 희곡 전체를 좌우하는 더욱 중요한 요소가 되었다. 첨단 과학기술을 일상으로, 인간다움을 비일상으로 배치한 것이 곧 현대 우리의 모습을 그대로 반영한 것이 된 것이다. 익숙한 것을 낯설게, 그리고 낯선 것에 보편성을 부여했던 마쓰이 작품의 연장선에서, <팜>은 그의 또 다른 새로운 가족 이야기로 거듭났다. The play Farm depicts the life story of a boy who was born through genetic recombination and lives while growing other people's organs. This play, based on sci-fi material, was premiered in 2014 by Shu Matsui, a writer and director. After that, it was performed in Korea and Japan, directed by Kim Jeong, and received attention again. Shu Matsui said that he wrote the play inspired by the news that human organs can be grown in pigs. Writer Shu Matsui, who created bizarreness by substituting everyday dialogues into extreme situations, challenged sci-fi subjects through Farm. After the premiere of Farm, the field of regenerative medicine has developed rapidly, and such an interspecies organ transplant is about to become a reality. In that science and technology, which was only a dramatic setting, can be interpreted differently over time, his sci-fi imagination became an important factor in determining the entire play. The arrangement of cutting-edge science and technology into daily life and humanity as non-routine reflects our modern state as it is. As an extension of Matsui's work, which gave the familiar to the unfamiliar and the unfamiliar to the universal, Farm was reborn as another new family story.
