The catalytic cracking of n-octane including thermal cracking was carried out over H-ZSM-5 zeolite at different temperatures. The conversion and selectivity of thermal cracking and catalytic cracking of n-octane over H-ZSM-5 were compared and H-ZSM-5 zeolite were characterized by XRD, N2 sorption, NH3 TPD, and 27Al MAS NMR.

Catalytic cracking of n-octane was carried out over Fe-ZSM-5 zeolite catalysts prepared by ion-exchange with various Fe contents from 1.0 to 10.0 mmol. The catalysts were characterized by XRD, and N2 sorption. XRD patterns of Fe-ZSM-5 showed typically ZSM-5 structure. But the crystallinity and surface area of Fe-ZSM-5 decreased about 30% compared with H-ZSM-5. Although all of the catalysts used were observed deactivation with reaction time, 2.5 mmol Fe-ZSM-5 was more stable than another catalysts. Also ethylene to propylene ratio was almost 0.9. By adding Fe ion into the ZSM-5 zeolite, catalytic activity and stability was enhanced.
