최근 중국 전통무술은 현대사회의 급진적인 변화와 함께 수련생의 감소와 무술의 침체기를 맞고 있다. 중국 전통무술은 개인의 수련과 품행을 매우 중시하며 무술의 기격성 및 실전가치는 그의 본질적인 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 또한, 전통무술 및 예의의 융합이 전통무술의 중요한 특징이라고 하여 사람들은 전통무술 중 예의를 무덕이라고 칭한다. 이로 인해 전통무술의 특징을 말하자면 기술이나 이론에만 한정할 수 없으며 그에 속하는 일부로써의 무덕까지 고려해야 한다. 현재 중국무술은 전통무술과 경기무술 두 가지 영역이 존재한다. 그러나 이러한 두 가지 영역이 불균형적인 발전추세를 보이고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 중국 전통무술의 문파 특징, 내재적 특징, 경기·예술 특징, 예의적 특징, 전통무술과 경기무술 정의 특징을 탐색하여, 문헌연구를 통하여 중국 전통무술의 역사성과 현대사회의 흐름에 잘 적용할 수 있는 발전전략을 모색하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 이를 통해 도출된 구체적인 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 과학적인 전통무술의 이론을 정립해야 한다. 둘째, 전통무술과 경기무술간의 조화로운 발전을 도모해야 한다. 셋째, 전통무술의 전문기술의 보유 및 수련을 목적으로 하는 것 뿐 만 아니라 건강을 주요목적으로 해야 한다. 넷째, 전통무술의 투로를 보호해야 한다. 다섯째, 대내외의 협조 및 교류를 증가시켜야 한다. 여섯째, 전통 무술을 다양한 행사 및 홍보활동을 통하여 보급을 강화해 나가야 한다. With dramatic changes of the modern society and reduction in trainee numbers, there has been stagnation in recent traditional Chinese martial arts. Chinese traditional martial arts considers the training and demeanor of the individual very importantly and is fundamentally characteristic of its martial nature and actual fighting value. In addition, courtesy is referred to as ``the virtue of martial arts` since it is taught that the fusion of traditional martial art and courtesy is an important characteristic of the traditional martial arts. Because of this, when speaking of the characteristics of traditional martial arts, they are not limited to the techniques or theories but must consider the virtue of martial arts as its integral part. Currently, there are two areas of Chinese traditional martial arts in practice; traditional martial arts and competing martial arts. However, the trend these days is that the two are developing unevenly. Hence, this study investigates the characteristics of various schools of traditional martial arts, their internal features, competition/arts features, courtesy features, and the characteristics of defining traditional art and competing martial arts through literary reviews with an aim to explore development strategies that are applicable to the historicity and the current trends of traditional martial arts. Specific conclusions from the study are as follows. First, scientific theories of traditional Chinese martial arts should be established. Second, harmonious development between traditional Chinese martial arts and its competition is needed. Third, health as well as professional skills retention and training should be placed as the main purpose of traditional martial arts. Fourth, a set pattern of traditional Chinese martial arts should be protected. Fifth, domestic and international cooperation and interaction should increase. Finally, propagation of martial arts should be enhanced by various events and promotions.
