The blade of automobile torque converter is the most important element that delivers all torques. Until now torque converter strength evaluation method executed only the structural analysis which applies uniformly distributed load on the blade surface. In this study the pressure data from fluid analysis results replaced the uniformly applied load for the structural analysis. Also, this paper presented the safety factor for the strength evaluation of torque converter blade.

More than five pulleys are used in an automobile, such as crankshaft, water pump, air-con compressor, fan and power steering pump pulley. Although the shape of pulley is simple, the design evaluation of a pulley is difficult because of composite boundary conditions such as the thickness of a pulley, the tension force of a v-belt, the tightening torque of bolts and the shape of a bracket, etc. So, in this study, we are going to provide the optimum mesh condition and make good use of it at structure analysis by comparing the analysis result according to the variation of basic mesh size as well as refinement mesh size and its area at pulley structure analysis. Result of this study, the maximum value can be distorted by bad element, it tells us that we need to judge the suitability of finite element that comes to maximum stress location as we judge the analysis result.

Although the shape of pulley is simple, the design evaluation of a pulley is difficult because of composite boundary conditions such as the thickness of a pulley, the tension force of a v-belt, the tightening torque of bolts and the shape of a bracket, etc. So, in this study, we carried out stress analysis at static load condition and analyzed the results according to boundary conditions. It is found that the effect of the tightening torque of bolts is independent, but the thickness of a pulley, the tension force of a v-belt and the shape of a bracket have a composite effect on the stress distribution of a pulley.

A Torque converter expansion or the internal motion is the design point which is important in the internal pressure and rotation speed which operates to the torque converter. We did confirm the expansion and internal motion which it follows in the internal pressure and rotation speed which operates at lock-up clutch of the torque converters with a finite element method.
