이학원(Lee Hak Won) 한국사진지리학회 1998 한국사진지리학회지 Vol.8 No.1
It has been almost 7 years since the Association of Korean Photo-Geographers was established on May 9th of 1992. It has been developing through the sacrificial efforts of its members. Its important achievements have been the semi-annual publication of The Journal of Photo-Geography(Sajin Chiri), the hosting of a Geographic Photograph Exhibition, and the hosting of a photography contest for geographic photographs. On the main subject, I stated my view by pressing problems with the Association`s activities which were suggested at its inception and treating present problems with the Association. The Association holds an exhibition of geographic photographs every year, but it needs a well organized system to distribute the list of exhibits arranged systematically and supply geographic photographs in the form of slides which could be supplied to members quickly and cheaply. Also, it should have fixed-rate guarantee return program to the original maker of the photos by the number of photo sold. Instead the Association has the copyright of the photos in the form of slides, submitted at the exhibition. It would be better if the Association bore the expense of making the photo frames to be exhibited as slides from its members and the expense of sending exhibited photo frames to members. However, if there were a system to award excellent geographic photograph exhibited, we could collect money for the real expenses for producing and sending photo frames under the pretext of participation fees in the contest. It is worth trying to hold a contest of geographic photographs for undergraduate and graduate students related to the study of geography to participate in, and to prepare the ground for development. Also, facing the IGC Seoul conference in 2000, I think it is good idea to develop The Association of Korean Photo-Geographers products, sales and provide the newest slides about each part of Korean geography intended for domestic and foreign geographers. I want to emphasize the real intention of the Association is to serve geography educators by holding the Association of Korean Photo-Geographers meetings in the provinces. Taking this opportunity, it could prompt make more members to join. To solve such problems requires a devoted and energetic person with support and vigorous participation from its members through the country.
