      • Effect of pH and Ionic Strengths on the DNA-Breaking Action of Some Guanine Analogs

        구아닌 관련 화합물과 2,3-dihydroxy-2-propenal과의 반응에서 분리된 수종의 구아닌 유사체들의 DNA에 대한 작용을 조사하였다. 각종 pH를 가진 다양한 완충용액 중에서 DNA와 이들 유사체와 반응을 행하여 이들 화합물이 pH나 이온의 강도에 따라 DNA 절단 기능이 다양하게 영향을 받는 것이 확인되었다. The physiological function of some guanine analogs separated in the reaction of guanine related compounds with 2,3-dihydroxy-2-propenal on double strand DNA was investigated. The reaction of the analogs with calf thymus DNA was carried out in various ranges of pH and in each buffer solution with different ionic strengths. The DNA-breaking action of the compounds was affected by pH, ionic strengths and species of ions.

        A Study on the Effect of Residual Stress between Body and Glaze of Pottery on the Mechanical Strength

        In this study, the effect of residual stress on mechanical strength was investigated with 1 kind of whiteware body and 4 kinds of glazes which are produced in succeeding ceramic art place. Using dipping method, the body was coated for different times in order to manipulate the coating thickness and sintered in the different temperatures ($1200^{\circ}C$, $1250^{\circ}C$, $1300^{\circ}C$, $1350^{\circ}C$) for two thus hours. The sintered bodies were characterized by XRD, EPMA, FEM and UTM in order to study the forming of reaction layer between body and glazes, residual stresses and the effects of residual stresses on mechanical strength of pottery. At $1300{\circ}C$, we obtained maximum density and mechanical strength. By the finite element method, the residual stresses in surface of body were minimum in specific thickness of glazes and the mechanical strength of body in that thickness of glazes showed maximum when the firing temperature was settled.

        군산 공업단지 인근 논 토양 및 수도체 중 중금속 함량

        Contents of heavy metals in paddy soils and brown rice of near the Kunsan industrial complex area were investigated. Average total heavy metal contents in paddy soils were Pb 34.33, Cd 0.50, Cu 35.49, and Zn 71.67 ㎎/㎏ respectively. There are no correlation between distances from industrial complex and contents of heavy metals in paddy soils. Average contents of heavy metals in brown rice grown above paddy soil were Pb 1.74, Cd 0.07, Cu 3.54, and Zn 16.53 ㎎/㎏. Relationships between 0.1N HCl soluble heavy metals in paddy soils and contents of brown rice showed positive significant correlations for Pb at 1% level(r=0.6853^(**)) and for Zn at 5% level(r=0.5420^*). Relationships between total contents of heavy metals in paddy soils and contents of brown rice showed only positive significant correlation for Pb at 1% level(r=0.7131^(**)). Contents of heavy metals in paddy soils and brown rice of near the Kunsan industrial complex was polluted partly by the influence of smoke and dust out from industrial complex but not polluted anxious level.

      • Effect of Oxygen and Metal Ions on the DNA-Breaking Action of Some Guanine Analogs

        Guanosine과 guanylic acid를 triose reductone으로 수식하여 조제(造製)한 $N^2$-(3-oxo-2-hydroxypropenyl) guanosine과 $N^2$-(3-oxo-2-hydroxypropenyl) guanylic acid의 DNA 절단작용에 대한 산소, 강환원제인 dithiothreitol, 및 수종의 금속 ion들의 영향을 agarose gel electrophoresis로 검토하였다. $Cu^{2+}$ 존재하에서 guanine 유도체 들은 그들의 산화 및 가수분해 작용에 의하여 DNA의 절단에 관여하고 있었고 질소 gas와 dithiothreitol 등은 산화 및 가수분해 작용을 방해하므로 DNA의 fragmentation을 지연 또는 저해시켰다. $Cu^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Fe^{2+}$, $Fe^{3+}$ 등의 ion 중에서, $Cu^+2$가 이 유도체들의 DNA-breaking 작용에 가장 강한 촉진역할을 하였다. The effect of oxygen, dithiothreitol and some metal ions on the DNA-breaking action of the guanine analogs, $N^2$-(3-oxo-2-hydroxypropenyl) guanosine and $N^2$-(3-oxo-2-hydroxypropenyl) guanylic acid, which were prepared by the modification of guanosine and guanylic acids with triose reductone, were investigated at $37^{\circ}C$ at physio logical pH by an agarose slab gel electrophoresis. The oxidation and the hydrolysis of the analogs were related to the fragmentation of double strand DNA but a nitrogoen gas and strong reducing reagent, dithiothreitol, interfered with the oxidation and the hydrolysis. Among the metal ions, $Cu^{2+}$, $Pb^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$, $CuSO_4$ showed the strong accerelating effect on the DNA-breaking action of the guanine derivatives.

      • DNA Breaking Action of Guanine Analogs Modified by Triose Reductone

        Triose reductone으로 수식된 guanine 유도체의 $\lambda$ 및 calf thymus DNA에 대한 절단작용을 agarose electrophoresis로 검토하였다. Tricylcic type인 $N^2$-(2-hydroxypropenylidene) guanin과 open type인 $N^2$-(3-oxo-2-hydroxypropenyl) guanine은 $CuSO_4$ 존재하에서 DNA 절단작용을 가지고 있으며 후자가 더 강한 활성을 가지고 있다. 또한, 그 guanine 유도체들의 DNA에 대한 절단작용은 triose reductone 보다 약한 활성을 나타냈다. Double strands breakage of guanine analogs modified by triose reductone on $\lambda$ and calf thymus DNA was investigated by using agarose slab gel electrophoresis, $N^2$-(2-hydroxypropenylidene) guanine and $N^2$-(3-oxo-2-hydroxypropenyl) guanine, possessed, the DNA breaking activity in the presence of $CuSO_4$, and the latter was more active than the tricyclic type analog. The DNA breakability of the analogs was weaker than that of triose reductone.

        Contents of heavy metals in sea waters, sediments, fishes, and shellfishes from Kunsan·Changhang coastal areas were investigated. Average contents of heavy metals in sea water were Pb 2.35, Cd 0.52, Cu 2.09, Zn 13.65 and Hg 0.24 ㎍/ℓ. Average contents of heavy metals in sediments were Pb 19.49, Cd 0.15, Cu 9.31, Zn 20.07 ㎎/㎏, and Hg 13.6 ㎍/㎏. Average contents of Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Hg in Acantogobius hasta were 1.08, 0.05, 2.24, 58.14, and 0.151 ㎎/㎏ and those in Mugil cephalus were 1.63, 0.05, 1.51, 32.69, and 0.065 ㎎/㎏. Accumulation ratios of Pb and Cu in Acantogobius hasta were similar to Mugil cephalus but accumulation ratios of Zn and Hg in Acantogobius hasta were higher 2 times than in Mugil cephalus. Average contents of Pb, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Hg in Cycling sinensis were 1.03, 1.23, 6.83, 75.83, and 0.071 ㎎/㎏ and those in Ruditapes philippinarum were 0.93, 0.86, 5.90, 52.16, and 0.074 ㎎/㎏. Accumulation ratios of heavy metals in shellfishes were in the order of Cu$gt;Cd$gt;Zn$gt;Pb$gt;Hg, irrespective of shellfishes kind.

        범학문적 융합학문으로서의 식공간학에 관한 고찰

        ‘Dining environment & Atmospherics’ (Shik Gong Gan) is defined as the place where communication between humans and interaction between humans and several physical factors in the dining environment (dinnerware, linens, silverware, glassware, centerpieces, accessories, interior design elements and other decorative elements in this space) occur while dining in the combination of time and space. ‘Dining environment & Atmospherics Studies’ attempt to utilize a transdisciplinary approach as a method of F&B marketing, concerning dining environment and atmospheric elements by approaching food and gastronomy in terms of the art and aesthetic perspectives according to the trends of the 21st century. I would like to propose that future ‘Dining environment & Atmospherics Studies’ be transdisciplinary, focused on dining, and practical to create extensive added value through an international, national and local approach historical, sociological, anthropological research exploration of food systems from production to consumption and distribution and exploration of environment, ethics and economic factors. Furthermore, in order to do so, follow-up research in various fields should be conducted by specialized researchers and adjacent study researchers, which will lead to transdisciplinary study in the true sense of the word. Creation of transdisciplinary studies is an attempt to surpass the limit of subdivision while maintaining the professionalism of each subdivided study and functions as more than the sum of the subdivided components, creating a synergy effect of vast knowledge rooted in humanities science, natural science, social science and art design surrounding dining that is implied in the Dining Environment & Atmospherics study area and various research methods (Bruun et al, 2005).
