In this study, a computer program has been developed which predicts the engine performance characteristics by the analysis of the flow in the intake and exhaust manifold and the cylinder combustion calculation for the MPI spark ignition engines. For the flow calculation, the methods of characteristics has been used and for the calculation in the cylinder, the various combustion models have been used.<br/> Using this program, a study for the optimal design of intake system has been carried out by varing the plenum chamber volume and the both lengths of the pipe which compose the pipe from surge tank to plenum chamber and that from plenum chamber to cylinder.<br/> The experimental work has been pursued to get the pressure variations in both manifold and cylinder and volumetric efficiency. The result of simulation have been compared with that of experimential work and the optimal design data for the experimental engine could be found.<br/>

In this study, a three-dimensional finite element model was developed for the analysis of the piston of the direct injection mono cylinder diesel engine.<br/> The model which consists of whole piston body to accommodate the eccentric bowl in the piston head. is used to calculate the operating temperature and the corresponding thermal stresses due to the thermal and mechanical loads.<br/> The following conclusion can be derived:<br/> (1) The thermal stress distribution in the piston is not critical. but at its pin hole and bowl inner surface part, the thermal stress is concentrated.<br/> (2) The stress is also generated by the fluttering motion of the piston rings.<br/>

In woody species with a long life span, the studies on inheritance of any trait may be very time consuming and laborious. Chloroplast DNA(cpDNA) has been a valuable tool in such studies since it has several unique features such as limited genome size and cytoplasmic inheritance. In the present study, cpDNAs from five different species of Populus (P. alba, P. glandulosa, P. alba x P. glandulosa, P. davidiana, and P. nigra), and Nicotiana tabacuna were compared with regard to restriction fragment length polymophism. The results showed that cpDNAs among the species were very conserved, although some polymorphisms were observed when the DNAs were digested with restriction enzyme EcoRI or KphI. The other enzymes (Bgl II, and PstI) tested produced identical restriction fragmentation pattern among the species. However, cpDNAs from all the five Populus species showed different restriction fragmentation pattern from that of tobacco with the four restriction enzymes tested. Southern hybridization with tobacco rbcL gene fragment as a probe also produced identical pattern among Populus species. The results indicate that cpDNAs in the genus are very well conserved during evolution.
직분식 디젤기관 연소실벽면의 순간열플럭스, 열전달 계수 및 연손실 분포에 관한 실험적 연구

In this study, the instantaneous temperature probes were developed for the experimental measurement of instantaneous surface temperature on the combustion chamber wall of the DI mono cylinder diesel engine. The instaneous temperatures and heat flux were measured on the cylinder head, piston crown and bowl parts and cylinder liner. The heat transfer coefficient and heat loss which is flowed out through the combution chamber wall could be derived through the calculation process of the measured data.<br/>
Helmholtz resonator 가 SI기관의 흡기 시스템에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구

This is experimental study on the influence of Helmholtz resonator for the intake system of spark ignition engine. The intake system such as intake manifold, plenum chamber and intake pipe is tuned to the operating rpm of engine to increase the volumetric efficiency, but many Helmholtz resonators are also mounted in the intake system to decrease the intake noise level.<br/> Therefore, it is necessary to know what the influence of the resonators is for volumetric efficiency. Finding the mounting position of resonator to increase the volumetric efficiency is first thing to find and finding the influence of neck length variation and volume variation of resonater on the volumetric efficiency is second and third thing to find. Resonator (2900rpm equivalent) is mounted at the various position along the intake pipe to find which position is the most efficient position. It is found that the position which is departed 150cm from plenum chamber is better than any other else as the mounting position of resonator, and the amount of the increase of volumetric efficiency is about 3%. The variation of neck lenght and volume has little influence on volumetric efficiency.<br/>
