This study is to complement the Lagrange Multiplier method and SUMT method having been conventionally used for the optimum proportioning of R.C beams, to develop the Algorithm that can be taken the optimum solution by using them. In R.C beams, since the strength and the steel ratio are usually considered at preliminary stage, the design constraints used are strength constraints and the side constraints (upper and lower limits of steel ratio). Cost objective function for the minimum cost design is obtained by considering the cost of concrete, steel bars, and forming. Optimization is achieved by using the modified Lagrange Multiplier method, SUMT method and design space method. The computer program developed in this study consists of main program and subprogram(revised Lagrange Multiplier method, SUMT method and Design Space method).
