The effort of reducing sulfur oxides and particulate emission lead to limits on sulfur content in marine fuels. Additionally, regulation of particulate emission is discussed at International Maritime Organization, which means conversion from indirect to direct control. In this respect, an experimental study was conducted on a high speed diesel engine fuelled with ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) and relatively higher sulfur diesel fuel (HSD) to investigate engine-out emission characteristics (especially particulate emission). The results represented the particulate mass for HSD increased by a maximum of 1.9 times compared to ULSD, which can be explained by higher sulfur contents within HSD. This shows reasonable consistency with the results of analysis on particulate component.

Test procedure or standards for HD vehicle"s fuel economy and Emission analysis are not yet published in worldwide. HD vehicles have a lot of variation models in spite of same engine and powertrain. In this study, we have performed HD vehicle"s fuel economy and emission test with HD chassis dynamometer and CVS using HWFET cycle. Although RW(reference weight) is same, test results are very different as payload conditions which are real payload on test vehicle and curb vehicle weight(no payload). There are about 30% differences because of bouncing or slip between tire and dynamometer"s roller. In order to minimize the error of test results as payload on test vehicle, the procedure or method of adaption payload condition on vehicle must be pre defined.
Off-road 엔진의 DPF 재생 특성 분석을 위한 PM loading 조건에 관한 연구

In this study, we developed for verification of DPF regeneration logic. This method can be applied to the new adopted engine and aftertreatment system under limited information of regeneration logic. We performed NRTC and NRSC cycle for find out the engine"s emissions level. Also, the engine map was made from the engine performance in all engine operating conditions. This map was applied to the PM loading conditions. We find out the engine"s emission level(interm-Tier4) through the emission cycle and analyzed characteristics of DPF regeneration logic from load and non-load conditions.
고속디젤기관에서 디젤미립자 필터를 활용한 입자상물질 배출 특성

International Maritime Organization has been increasingly strengthening the emission standard for marine environment protection. Regulations of GHG, SOx and NOx have been enforced. Now, restrictions on particulate matters (especially back carbon) have being discussing on MEPC and PPR of IMO. Many studies are performing application of after-treatment system like scrubber, electrostatic precipitator and diesel particulate filter for reduction particulate emissions. This study was conducted using a high speed marine diesel engine equipped with DPF. The results revealed that about 80% reduction rate of particulate mass measured at upstream and downstream of DPF. We are planning to utilize the result for developing DPF equipped with burner system for regeneration.
