Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of a Polycan-calcium gluconate complex on gingival health. Methods: Forty-one subjects with mild periodontitis (≥40 years) were divided into two groups: the placebo and test product (Polycan-calcium gluconate complex twice a day for 4 weeks) groups. Oral examination was performed and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) was collected from each subject at baseline and after 4 weeks. Interleukin (IL)-1βlevel in the GCF was determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Pocket depth and plaque index were significantly decreased in the test group at 4 weeks. The level of IL-1β and plaque index of the treatment group was significantly lower than of the placebo group. Conclusions: Based on the above results, Polycan-calcium gluconate complex may inhibit plaque accumulation in the mouth and may have a negative correlation with the level of inflammatory biomarkers. Consequently, gingival health was significantly improved by polycan-calcium gluconate complex.

In recent years, there has been a global trend toward the importance of natural extracts for the prevention and treatment of human diseases. β-glucan is known to have anti-inflammatory activity, anti-cancer, and improvement of immune system. Polycan is purified β-glucan from Aureobasidum pullulans SM-2001. The anti-cancer effects of β-gluconsan calcium, polycan and calcium gluconate complex, were evaluated in human oral cancer YD-10B cells. YD-10B cells were cultured in the presence of 0, 0.5, 0.75, 1 mg/ml β-gluconsan calcium for 48 hours. MTT assay, cell counting, and observation of cell morphology were conducted. The number of cells decreased and cell morphology changed in the 0.5 mg/ml of β-gluconsan calcium. Almost all cells were dead in the 0.75 and 1 mg/ml. MTT assay showed a dose-dependent reduction in cell proliferation (p<0.05). These results indicate that β-gluconsan calcium exhibiting anti-cancer effects in YD-10B cells through changes in cell morphology and cell death.

High current behaviors of extended drain n-typc metal-oxide-semiconductor field effects transistor (EDNMOS) with double polarity source (DPS) for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection are analyzed. Simulation based contour analyses reveal that combination of bipolar junction transistor operation and deep electron channeling induced by high electron injection gives rise to the second on-state. Therefore, the deep electron channel formation needs to be prevented in order to realize stable and robust ESD protection performance. Based on our analyses, general methodology to avoid the double snapback and to realize stable ESD protection is to be discussed.
