The auther has observed and examined the mucous glands of the digestive tract obtained from 35 fetus for their character, developmental process, and differential feature with the aids of PAS reaction, mucicarmine stain (MCM), and Highman's metachromatism (MCM). The following results are obtained. (1)The mucous inclusions of the mucous cell made their appearances and gradual increase in amount following the developmental stage in the order of, diffuse fine granular, coarse granular and alveolar structurures. The fine granular structures are slightly positive to PAS reaction and weakly stainable with MCM and negative to MCS. The coarse granular structures show strong positive reaction to PAS, strong affinity to MCM method and positive result to MCS. The alveolar structures, on the other hand, become weakened in the reactibility and stainability, particularly markad in the large alverolar structures. (2)The sublingual, submandibular, labiar, posterior lingual and palatine glands are posititive to PAS reaction, stainable with MCM and show positive result to MCS: therefore they are mucous type. (3)The surface epithelium of the stomach and duodenal glands are positive to PAS reaction and unstainable with MCH; there-fore they are mucoid type, (4)The goblet cells of the mucous cells of the gastric gland, jejunm and colon are positive to PAS reaction and stainable with MCM and show weak or uncertain stainability with MCS; they may be considered mucous type. (5)The submandibular glands show definite glandular structure in the 8th month of gestation. The mucous cells become markedly differentiated in the 6th month and, in the 8th month, numerous typical mucous cells make their appearance. (6)The sublingual glands show appearent lobulation of the glandbody in the 8th and 9th month of gestation, differentiation of the mucous cells in the 6th month and appearance and increase in number of the mucous cells after the 7th month. (7)The labial glands make the completion of the glandlar structures approximately in the 7th month and become to contain a fair number of the typical mucous cells. (8)The posterior lingual glands show a definite lobulation of the grandbody in the 7th month of gestation. From the 6th month, many mucus-filled gland cells make their appearance an after the 7th month mucus globule-containing cells begin to appear and increase in number gradually, and many typical mucous cells appear after the 9th month. (9)The lobulation of the palatine glands gradually become definite from the 7th month of gestation. The mucous cells Show definite differentiation from the 6th month and after the 8th month many typical mucous cells make their appearance in the terminal portion of the gland. (10)Gastric surface epithelium and gastric glands: The gastric surface epithelium show increased height of the cells, marked alteration of the nuclear shape and close density of the mucous granules from the 6th month of gestation and after then not much changes of the reactability and stanability are noted during the rest of the developmental stage. (11)The duodenal glands show marked increase of mucin in the gland cells from the 6th month of gestation and in the 7th month typical mucous cells make their appearance from the proximal half of the gland and fill the entire gland in the 9th month. (12)Goblet cell: In the jejunum, G-type cell become to increase in number and locate chifly at the intestinal villi, and in the intestinal gland M-type cell are chiefly distributed. In the 6th month, T-type cell appear in large number in the intestinal gland and M-type cell are found only in the area where mucous cells present in group. In the 7th month. G-type take the majority of number in the intestinal gland and M-type cell become less in number. In the colon, G-type cell present in the epithelium covering the protruding portion of the intestinal fold and M-type cells at the bottom of the fold. In the 5th month, the lining epithelial cells of the intestinal canal become sharply invaginated, straight-tubular in shape and they become composed mostly of mucous cells. In the 6th month, G-type cells increase in number in the surface epithelium and in the distal half of the gland. M-type and T-type cells are abundant in the proximal half of the gland and this situation tends to become more apparent thereafter.

The author observed the degree of alveolar bone destruction of patients, who visited department of dentistry of KNUH from march 1979 to march 1981. Full mouth roentgenogram were taken from each patients, aged 16 to 69. The results obtained were summerized as followings: 1. The degree of alveolar bone destruction in restored tooth according to age group. 1.41 in group Ⅰ, 1.58 in group Ⅱ, 1.63 in group Ⅲ. So, the alveolar bone resorption showed increasing tendency as aging. 2. The degree of alveolar bone resorption according to presence or abscence of restoration. Restored group (average index 1.57±1.00) was about 1.2 times more than unrestored group (average index 1.27±1.07). 3. The degree of alveolar bone resorption according to the condition of restoration. Unfavorable margin of amalgam restoration (average index 2.11±0.95) was about 1.6 times more than favorable margin (average index 1.30±0.94).
