Purpose: This study investigates patterns of small group interaction and examines the influence among graduate nursing students of online collaborative learning strategies on small group interaction patterns, task performance and learning attitude in web-based team learning environments. Method: To analyze patterns of small group interaction, group discussion dialogues were reviewed by two instructors. Groups were divided into two categories depending on the type of feedback given (passive or active). For task performance, evaluation of learning processes and numbers of postings were examined. Learning attitude toward group study and coursework were measured via scales. Results: Explorative interactions were still low among graduate nursing students. Among the students given active feedback, considerable individual variability in interaction frequency was revealed and some students did not show any specific type of interaction pattern. Whether given active or passive feedback, groups exhibited no significant differences in terms of task performance and learning attitude. Also, frequent group interaction was significantly related to greater task performance. Conclusion: Active feedback strategies should be modified to improve task performance and learning attitude among graduate nursing students.

Purpose: Level of meta-cognition of students has been regarded as one of the crucial factors on web-based learning. This study aimed to describe interaction type in small group discussion of the nursing graduate students and to investigate learning consequences and interaction types in group discussion on meta-cognition level. Method: Twenty six graduate nursing students attending the class on-line at the K university in Seoul were included in the study. We measured their meta-cognition level and learning attitude. We also scored their individual and group reports as well as analyzed interaction type by reviewing the dialogue of the group discussion. Results: The participants showed low frequency of exploratory interaction and high frequency of integrative interaction in the cognitive interaction category. They showed frequent modification interaction in the meta-cognitive interaction category. Interestingly, the students with lower level of meta-cognition achieved significantly greater scores in the individual assignments. High functioning group consisting of the students with high meta-cognitive level produced greater group report. Conclusion: A new strategy is needed to encourage in-depth interaction in a group discussion of nursing students. Meta-cognitive level of the students should be consideredto form a small group for discussion in order to improve group activities.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify social support networks for each life-cycle stage of adults. Method: A total of 1,047 subjects included 454 young adults, 262 middle-aged adults and 331 senior adults. Data were collected using Oh’s Korean Version Norbeck’s Social Support Questionnaire (NSSQ), and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. Result: For the young adults, parents were the top and second priority as important social support resources, the third was siblings, and then friends. For the middle-aged, spouse was the first priority as an important social support resource, while the second and the third were children. For the senior adults, children ranked from the top to the seventh priority. The mean number of social support resources was 13.23 for the young adult, 12.93 for the middle-aged and 5.30 for the senior adults. Social support networks of the young adults significantly differed according to gender and marital status. That of the middle-aged significantly differed according to family size. In addition, that of the senior adults was significantly different according to marital status, economic status, religion and family size. Conclusion: It is essential to consider social support networks for each life-cycle stage of adults when making a social support intervention program.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of case management service for hypertensive elderly patients through the customized visiting home health care program. Method: Non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was employed. Data were collected from April 2007 to January 2009. Among a total of fifty subjects, 25 subjects were belonged to the case management group and the others were belonged to the general management group. Results: 1) In experimental group, significant increasing rate of number of people within normal blood pressure by time, but no significant increasing rate of number of people within normal blood neutral fat, total cholesterol, HDL, & LDL. 2) In experimental group, the score of knowledge about disease and healthy life practice were increased on 8 week period but decreased on follow up period. Number of people within normal blood HDL and mean score of healthy life practice were significantly higher than control group on follow up period. Conclusion: Case management service was effective on controlling blood pressure but partly effective on blood lipid, knowledge about disease, and healthy life practice in hypertensive patients. Further study is needed to conduct a periodic re-evaluation of the effect of case management and to verify an optimal interval to provide the case management service.
