The high energy fluid leakage from the high temperature and high differential pressure drop system of NPPs (Nuclear Power Plant) decreases efficiency and therefore leads to considerable economic loss due to less power production. Also the leakage possibly damages critical parts of components such as valve and trim and deteriorates its performance. This study identifies the leakage using the acoustic emission method in order to understand the leakage characteristics and to quantify amount of leakage on the valve having same conditions as secondary side valve of YoungKwang unit 1&2. The acoustic emission characteristics indicated considerable leakage over 0-2% damage of valve and the ultrasonic test characteristics indicated considerable leakage over 2-5% damage of valve. The program to quantify leakage and convert it into cost was developed using the database obtained from repeated tests.

For the detection and quantify fluid leakage of high energy fluid leakage, the facility that can do field demonstration about the system of high temperature-pressure drop is needed. Through the field demonstration under the similarity about the MSS (Main Steam Line System) in YoungKwang unit 1 & 2, it is accomplished that the improvement of reliability to the quantify fluid leakage of fluid leakage at the valve and the development of fluid leakage test facility that can test the various pattern of fluid leakage. And the quantify fluid leakage system for the development of DB in high reliability is established.

The high energy fluid leakage from the high temperature and high differential pressure drop system of NPPs (Nuclear Power Plants) decreases efficiency and consequently leads to considerable economic loss due to less power production. Also, the leakage possibly damages critical parts of components such as valve and trim with the effect of cavitation, flashing, and erosion, etc. and deteriorates its performance. Thus, in this study, we diagnosed the as-is leakage for four (4) main steam drain valves and two (2) steam traps of Yonggwang 1,2 units during normal operation by using multi-measuring technique and observed the occurrence of fine leakage. In the course of measuring fluid leakage, the sign of fine leakage is estimated to be the leakage from orifice. By converting the leakage to energy loss, it is equivalent to the amount of several hundred thousand won per each unit, which supports the basis for the justification of fine leakage.
