Present experiment was performed in order to make clear the phenoinenon of fertilization and pro-embryo formation in Cymbidium virescens in Korea, and the results of 조ich were summarized as follows. 1. Primordia of ovule differentiates from parietal placenta when it is about 15 days after pollination. Archesporial cell differentiates about 30 days and complete embryo sac is formed about 60 days. 2. Pollen tubes penetrate into the stigma when it is about 15 days after pollination and they reach embryo sacs about 60 days. 3. Fertilization takes place about 75 days after pollination. Fertilized egg cells divide in two and form pro-embryo 조en about 90days. Seeds are formed about 130 days.

The pollen tube elongation, the phenomenon of fertilization and cross-compatibility of violet flower plants crossed with scarlet ones in Rhododendron yedoense MAXIM. var. poukhanense NAKAI, were observed, and the results of which were summarized as follows. 1. The pollen tube penetrates into the stylar tissue at 3 hours after pollination and it reaches the microphyll at 24 hours. The primary endosperm nucleus is fertilized at 5 days after pollination and the egg cell is fertilized at 8 days. The pro-endosperm nucleus is divided at 10 days after pollination and the first division of fertilized egg takes place at 14 days. 2. The reciprocal crossing was carried out between scarlet flower plant and violet one. Scarlet × Violet was 17.3, and Violet × Scarlet was 29.4 in the percentage of seed formation.
