A Scalable Audio Coder for High-quality Speech and Audio Services

In this paper, we propose a scalable audio coder, which has a variable bandwidth from the narrowband speech bandwidth to the audio bandwidth and also has a bit-rate from 8 to 320 kbits/s, in order to cope with the quality of service(QoS) according to the network load. First of all, the proposed scalable coder splits bandwidth of the input audio into narrowband up to around 4 kHz and above. Next, the narrowband signals are compressed by a speech coding method compatible to an existing standard speech coder such as G.729, and the other signals whose bandwidth is above the narrowband are compressed on the basis of a psychoacoustic model. It is shown from the objective quality tests using the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and the perceptual evaluation of audio quality(PEAQ) that the proposed scalable audio coder provides a comparable quality to the MPEG-1 Layer III (MP3) audio coder.

Existing standard speech coders can provide speech communication of high quality while they degrade the performance of speech recognition systems that use the reconstructed speech by the coders. The main cause of the degradation is that the spectral envelope parameters in speech coding are optimized to speech quality rather than to the performance of speech recognition. For example, mel-frequency cepstral coefficient (MFCC) is generally known to provide better speech recognition performance than linear prediction coefficient (LPC) that is a typical parameter set in speech coding. In this paper, we propose a speech coder using MFCC instead of LPC to improve the performance of a server-based speech recognition system in network environments. However, the main drawback of using MFCC is to develop the efficient MFCC quantization with a low-bit rate. First, we explore the interframe correlation of MFCCs, which results in the predictive quantization of MFCC. Second, a safety-net scheme is proposed to make the MFCC-based speech coder robust to channel error. As a result, we propose a 8.7 kbps MFCC-based CELP coder. It is shown from a PESQ test that the proposed speech coder has a comparable speech quality to 8 kbps G.729 while it is shown that the performance of speech recognition using the proposed speech coder is better than that using G.729.

This study was to predict the effects of mobile coupons on consumer engagement, impulse buying, and purchasing behaviors for fashion brands. A self-administered questionnaire was developed for data collection and included attributes of mobile coupons, consumer engagement, impulse buying, and consumer behavior (brand loyalty, brand switching, and intention to use a mobile coupon). A total of 142 usable responses were obtained from university students who had redeemed a mobile coupon for the purchase of fashion brands. The sample represented a greater number of females than males. The findings demonstrated that the attributes of mobile coupons consisted of three factors: enjoyment, ease of use, and usefulness. Of these factors, enjoyment significantly influenced consumer engagement with the mobile coupon, which led to impulse buying behavior. Brand loyalty and brand switching were also significantly influenced by consumer engagement with fashion brands’ mobile coupons. Finally, this study discussed fashion marketers’ managerial implications for developing and effectively managing mobile promotional strategies through mobile devices in the fashion retail market.

A farming area which had served as a place to produce agro-fishery products gets diversified in its functions as leisure and recreation space, as well as a pleasant living place. Recently, the rural area has drawn much attention as one of major tourist attractions, because so-called 'service farming' that makes the most use of natural resources closely related with tourist activities gets revitalized. With this trend, agritourism expands into a wide variety of related new forms along with the active support of national government offices, local governments, and residents. The purpose of this study is to make research into successful strategies of developing green tourism, with a focus on current status and cases of introducing sustainable green tourism of local governments. The study also aims to make preliminary research for evaluation work in detail, including weak points of tourism in the area. It also includes setting up image strategies for vitalizing green tourism, implementing intensive publicity, developing slow tourism, and setting up directions for low carbon green growth as part of expanding programs into cultural experience, ranch experience, and farming experience. For attaining the goal, how to progress sustainable green tourism has been closely reviewed based on measuring tools coming from literature reviews. Through this process, it is expected that Korea will grow into a tourism country with pro-environmental low carbon green growth, along with continuous development and research into rich and fascinating tourism attractions of local governments. With literary reviews and preliminary research, 290 questionnaires from respondents have been surveyed through empirical analysis. The result shows that both farming and fishing village tourism have influences upon policies of green tourism, which consequently have significant influences upon developing green tourism. It suggests that Dangjin-gun should focus on developing sustainable green tourism products that conform to low carbon green growth, along with training staff members to be kind and hygienic, and progressing excellent programs that offer many things to see, enjoy and experience, together with progressive marketing. To realize those goals, residents' positive participation and cooperation are inevitable, and the local government should put forward attracting investment of those who are concerned, as well as budget investment from local governments and subsidy from central government. In addition, various resources that belong to the residents' lives, including history, culture, folklore as well as ecological and farming resources, can be utilized for tourism progress, highlighting their attributes to the utmost and preserving tourism resources. Members of each village and organization should set up their business plan by themselves for green tourism progress. To attract more tourists, the business plans would contain various experience programs, resident training, and professional consulting, as well as hardware maintenance that includes infrastructure for tourism and local environment. Furthermore, administrative organization that is divided into a tourism development office and a culture and sports department should be integrated to maximize the planned effect. In this context, it is suggested that a special zone for green tourism be designated, a tourism publicity team be added to a current tourism organization, and a business team be newly established to maintain new tourist attractions. Through this study, Dajin-gun is expected to develop new policies for sustainable green tourism, build and progress it steadily.
전기모터를 사용한 소형 무인헬리콥터에 활용될 항법장치용 자장계의 보상

GNSS와 ARS는 저가의 무인 항공기를 위한 보편적인 센서로, 오차가 크며 방위각을 독립적으로 알아낼 수 없다는 단점이 있다. 또한 GNSS/INS는 초기정렬 과정과 직선비행 중에 IMU의 오차를 충분히 보상하지 못한다. 자장계는 방위각을 얻는데 효과적으로 활용되는데, 소형의 헬리콥터에 사용되는 전기모터는 정확한 방위각 산출을 방해한다. 이 논문에서는 자장계를 보상하는 방법을 제안하였으며, 비행시험으로 검증하였다. 또한 시뮬레이션 결과는 GNSS/INS에 추가된 자장계가 관측성과 정확도를 높이는 데 효과적임을 보여준다. GNSS and ARS are the most common sensors in low-end UAVs. However, these sensors are vulnerable to built-in errors and cannot measure the body heading independently. The GNSS/INS cannot fully compensate the IMU errors in initial alignment process and rectilinear flights. For an unmanned helicopter, a magnetometer can be more useful than any other sensors to obtain heading information. However, the electric motor which drives small helicopter UAV keeps the magnetometer from reading the pure magnetotelluric vector. This paper shows the effects of electric motor on the magnetometer readings, and presents a method to compensate the effects. The results are verified with flight test data. The simulation and experimental results in this paper proves that aiding GNSS/INS with magnetometer increases observability and improves accuracy.
