        The oldest method for systematically solving the problem of pipe networks is the Hardy-Cross method, In the past few years the Newton- Raphson method has been utilized to solve large networks, However both methods of analysis require initial guesses for flow distributions, and very bad estimates of these values can lead to slow convergence or, on some cases, a situation where the successive trials do not converge and the solution cannot be found. Therefore, it is proposed herein to solve hydraulic network problems using linear network theory, which is modified to account for nonlinear effects inherent of hydraulic systems. This method does not require an initialialization as do the above methods and always converges in a relatively few iterations.

        Several techniques of optimization, namely, linear programming, dynamic programming and others are available to solve the optimization problems. Dynamic programming is the most used optimization technique in water resources systems. The Markovian and sequential nature of the decisions that arise in water resources problems nicely fits into the Bellman's principle of optimality on which dynamic programming is based. Dynamic programming Approch is considered as one of the most efficient and widely used optimization techniques in water resources systems.

        This is a study on the comparison of rainfall distribution characteristics in the Han River basin. The results were as follows; 1. The characteristics of point and areal rainfall distribution could be represented by the various types of an exponential function. 2. Adoption of areal reduction factors or parameters in the transformation of point rainfall to areal rainfall proved to be valid. 3. Analysis of rainfall distribution characteristics could be made more accurately by dividing the Han River basin into the adequate rainfall zones.

        What has been attempted here is the development of some rather simple static optmization models that can complement some of the more traditionally used procedures for the preliminary screening of regional or basin-wide the optimization plans surface-water system or polices. This is presented optimization models that nonlinear cost, benefit and nonlinear expressions associated with numerous reservoir capacities, yields and the like are symplified, and are approximately estimated and evaluated by linear functions. This basic framwork and be modified of extended as appropriate for any specific water resources planning problem.

      • 산본천 유역의 유출계수 특성

        This study is to investigate the runoff characteristics in the urban stream after analyzing runoff coefficient by correlation model method and areal weighing runoff coefficients according to soil cover and land use pattern. Because the runoff was affected by the runoff coefficients given by function of land use pattern, this study has first acquired the areal weighing runoff coefficients as land use area is a weighted factor in the area of complex land use cocsisting of different land use pattern. This is suggested correlation model method by regression analysis between runoff coefficients and land blanketing area. This study results will contribute to the design plan of channel arrangement and storm sewer in urban area by utilizing this result as a basic information of finding flood runoff characteristics and estimating runoff volume depending on the expansion of impervious area, channel arrangement, and land use pattern in urban basin.

      • 하천 유역의 설계 홍수량 추정 모형 개발

        This is to develop the regionalized regression model which relates annual maximum flood peak flows to basin characteristics, and to estimate the magnitude and the frequency of river floods at the stage gaging stations selected by considering whether the flow is in natural condition. The representative watersheds selected for the study of flood freguency analysis are the Han, the Geum, the Yeong san, the Som jin and the Nak tong River basin. The magnitude and frequency of each station floods in the river basins are estimated by annual maximum series method, and are compared with sampling variances to calibrate the suitability of the flood estimates. The regionalized model in regional frequency analysis which relates annual maximum flood analysis which relates annual maximum flood flows to basin characteristics at gaging stations is developed and presented by using the generalized regression analysis method. The result of the study will contribute to providing various hydrologic information for the planning and the design of the hydraulic structures and the improvement of the river project.
