기독교적 현실인식과 정의의 개인적 실천 - 해방 전 김진수의 생애와 작품을 중심으로

김진수(金鎭壽)는 1930년대 후반 한국희곡사에서 반드시 거론되는 작가이다. 그러나 그의 작품은 공연이 있었던 당대에서 최근까지 본격적인 조망을 받지 못하고 있다. 본고에서는 그간 제대로 알려져 있지 않았던 김진수의 가계와 성장 및 성격의 형성과정, 간도에서의 활동 등을 추적하였으며 희곡 <길>과 <향연> 이외에 아동극 <세발자전거>, <종달새>, <산타클로즈> 등 해방 전 작품의 방송과 상연 이력을 살펴보았다. 김진수는 기독교 민족운동에 참여한 기독교 목사의 아들로 태어나 기독교계 평양 숭실중학을 나와 미국성공회에서 설립한 일본 릿쿄대학을 졸업하였다. 기독교 정신은 그의 작품세계의 근저를 이루고 있다고 할 수 있다. <길>에서 김진수는 위선적이고 타락한 조선인 군상을 현실적으로 그려내어 당대 조선인으로서 일상적으로 해야 할 개인적 과제를 환기하고 있다. <향연>에서는 특별한 극적 사건이나 갈등이 없으나 저마다 갖고 있는 고통과 고민을 감당하면서 삶을 긍정하는 태도를 보여주었으며 아동극 <세발자전거>와 <종달새>, <싼타클로즈>에서도 어려운 현실에서도 두려움을 이기고 옳은 행동을 하며 살아가는 것이 결국은 개인의 결단에 의한 것이며 저마다 감당해야하는 삶임을 드러내고 있다. 이는 현실적인 문제에 집중하면서 기독교적인 구원의 날을 기다리던 식민지 시기 기독교의 현실대응방식에 상응한다. 즉 김진수는 기독교적 현실인식에 기반하여 개인이 독자적으로 실천할 수 있는 인간주의의 구현에 목표를 두고 있다고 할 수 있다. Kim Jinsu is a writer who is always mentioned in the history of Korean dramas in the late 1930s. However, his works did not receive a full-fledged outlook until recently at the time of the performances. In this study, Kim Jinsoo's family lineage, the process of growth and personality formation, and activities in Gando, which were not well known, were examined. In addition to the plays < Gil(way) > and < Hyangyeon(banquet) >, the broadcast and performance history of pre-liberation works such as children's plays < Sebaljajeongeo(Tricycle) >, < Jongdalsae(Lark) >, and < Santa Claus > were examined. Kim Jinsoo was born as the son of a Christian pastor who participated in the Christian national movement and graduated from Christian Soongsil Middle School in Pyongyang. He graduated from Rikkyo University in Japan, founded by Anglican Church. It can be said that the Christian spirit forms the basis of his work. In < Gil(way) >, Kim Jinsoo realistically depicts the hypocritical and depraved group of Koreans, evoking the personal tasks that Koreans of the time must do on a daily basis. In < Hyangyeon(banquet) >, there are no special dramatic events or conflicts, but they show an attitude that affirms life while dealing with their own pain and anxieties. Even in the children's plays < Sebaljajeongeo(Tricycle) >, < Jongdalsae(Lark) >, and < Santa Claus >, it is revealed that overcoming fear and doing the right thing in a difficult reality is ultimately a personal decision and life that each person has to bear. This corresponds to the way of responding to the reality of Christianity during the colonial period, which focused on real problems and waited for the Christian day of salvation. Kim Jinsoo aims to realize humanism that can be practiced independently by individuals based on Christian reality perception.
