Biodegradation and Biocompatibility of Poly L-lactic Acid Implantable Mesh
윤상돈,권영삼,이규성 대한배뇨장애요실금학회 2017 International Neurourology Journal Vol.21 No.S1
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biodegradation and biocompatibility of poly L-lactic acid (PLLA) implantable mesh under in vitro and in vivo conditions. Methods: PLLA mesh was examined for changes in weight and tensile strength. The histology of the tissue around the PLLA implant was also evaluated. Results: The weight and tensile strength of the PLLA prosthesis was stable for 180 days. In addition, the surface of the PLLA mesh was not digested under in vitro or in vivo conditions as determined by scanning electron microscope. Histologically, there were no significant changes in the diameters of implanted PLLA mesh and subtype fibers over the course of 180 days. Likewise, there were no significant changes in the number of inflammatory and mast cells after 180 days, nor was there an increase in the percentage of collagen surrounding the PLLA mesh. Conclusions: The results indicate that PLLA prostheses have good rigidity and biocompatibility in vivo and in vitro.

The present study represents the effect of learners’ beliefs and cultural influence on Korean high school students’ English reading competence and attitude toward English reading. A total of 108 high school students participated in this study. They were divided into two groups(53 for experimental group, 55 for controlled one). Horwatz’s BALLI(The Beliefs about Language Learning Inventory) was employed before the experiment to confirm homogeneity of learners’ beliefs between the two groups. To verify the effectiveness of the present study, a set of questionnaire and 2 reading comprehension tests were designed and conducted before and after the experiment. For the experimental group, some fake negative information about their English reading ability and the attitude toward English reading was insinuated, whereas some fake positive information was presented for the controlled group. The result revealed that the experimental group(some negative information was presented) showed significant improvements on their English reading ability and the attitude toward English reading as well.

The 2015 revised national curriculum is implemented to the 10th and 11th graders in 2019. According to the curriculum, 6 key competencies need to be promoted during the whole school education in Korea. The purpose of the present study is verifying the effects of cooperative learning on key competencies of the 2015 revised national curriculum and English reading competence in EFL context in Korea. A total of 101 high school students participated in this study. They were divided into two groups(49 for experimental group, 52 for controlled one). To verify the effectiveness of the study, SCI(Student Competence Index) developed by KEDI(Korean Educational Development Institute) and 2 reading comprehension test were conducted before and after the experiment. Cooperative learning was adapted for the experimental group, whereas individual learning for controlled group. The experiment was operated for 14 weeks(2 hours every week). The result of the study revealed that both group showed significant improvements on reading ability but no significant differences were found between the groups. Whereas experimental group showed improvements on key competencies.

Two-dimensional photonic quasicrystal (PQCs) template patterns have been fabricated on a 1.1 ${\mu}m$-thick DMI-150 photoresist using a multiple-exposure holographic method. A 442-nm HeCd laser was utilized as a light source and the holographic exposure was carried out at a fixed angle of ${\theta}$ = 6$^{\circ}$. After the first holographic exposure, the sample was rotated to a proper angle and the second exposure was performed to the same manner. This exposure process was repeated n/2 times to obtain n-fold symmetric PQC patterns and then the sample was developed. The diffraction patterns of the fabricated PQC template were observed using a 632.8-nm HeNe laser. The fabricated PQCs exhibited 8, 10 and 12-fold rotational symmetry, which was in a good agreement with the interference simulation results. In addition, the diffraction patterns with n-rotation symmetry were observed for the corresponding n-fold PQCs. We believe that the multiple-exposure holography is a good method to fabricate the mesoscale PQCs with a high rotational symmetry.

According to some researches, subtitle might be believed to be effective on foreign language learning. This study investigated the effect of using movie subtitles on enhancing learners’ vocabulary in Korea. For this study, 106 middle school students and 48 high school students were selected as subjects. Middle school students were divided into three groups and so were the high school students. Three Walt Disney’s animations were adapted to them. Each animation was shown to the subjects in three ways; with Korean subtitles, with English subtitles, and without subtitles. To examine the effect of subtitles on vocabulary enhancement, vocabulary tests were conducted from each animation. The result of the analysis of the administered tests suggested that using subtitles has little effect on vocabulary enhancement. And the type of subtitles, Korean or English, has little effect, either.

As online learning increases in importance as a part of higher education, methods of understanding the most important instructional aspect of online learning, the video lecture, become more important. Video lectures are used as the main pedagogical tool in online learning situations and understanding how they can be used is of great value in research into online learning. The purpose of the present study is verifying the effect of online lectures on EFL students' learning and motivation. A total of 111 university students taking online classes participated in the study. To verify the effect of video lectures, a survey was conducted for the present study. This survey was conducted among students who were taking classes with many video lectures. The results of the study revealed that, as video lectures increased in media variety, there was a correlation with higher levels of student motivation and learning. Furthermore, higher levels of student engagement in video lectures correlated with higher levels of learning. However, engagement in video lectures did not affect motivation. These results are of value as they increase understanding of how online videos can improve the learning environment while having more media variety can engage students and improve their learning.
