ISG (Idle Stop & Go) system for Automatic-transmission equipped vehicle is developed for fuel saving consumed during idle stop. For this purpose, we made three kinds of system suit for the vehicle’s market positioning. One, called semiautomatic version, for small & TAXI vehicle and it operates when the driver changed the shift lever from D to Neutral. The second version, called automatic version, for conventional vehicle and it operates without any shift lever operation. The third one is Belt-Driven system and it developed only for Luxury class vehicle because of its NVH characteristic and higher cost. For these one, we developed our own Software and test procedure. And as a result, we can get more than 6%~30% of fuel economy improvement and eco-friendly brand image.

ISG(Idle Stop & Go) is a system for saving fuel during idle. The purpose of ISG system is fuel efficiency, Ecofriendly brand image and for meeting the federal regulations about emission. Especially ISG of auto-Transmission vehicle can save fuel consumption about 15% in traffic-jam mode. But system price is high to equip for small or diesel vehicle, so it is hard to be adopted many kind of vehicles. So the aim of this study is to introduce development stories of reducing system price. For these one, we made mule car and we can get feasibility test for development of system control logic.

The amount of fuel consumed when the engine operate on idle condition is about 6% of the total fuel used gon a FTP cycle. And when the auto-transmission equipped vehicle is driving in a highly congested urban area, the percentage of fuel consumed in idle mode exceeds 15%. Therefore we focused on developing an ISG system for auto-transmission vehicle and in this paper the development stories are presented.
