In the design of a suspension system of an automobile, system vibration and structural rigidity must be considered.<br/> In this paper we consider the weight reduction and the increase of the first eigen-frequency of a suspension part,<br/> especially on the upper control arm, using size optimization. To satisfy both the weight reduction and the increase of<br/> the first eigen-value, the multi-criteria optimization method for robust design is applied. The design variables are<br/> fluctuating during the optimization process by the multi-criteria optimization method. Therefore, we have<br/> determined the robust values of the design variables not only to satisfy the terms of fluctuation limits but also to<br/> optimize the two design parameters at the same time.
