Objectives: This study aims to evaluate how the degree of family support effects a compliance of patient role behavior and to provide basic data improve treatment effect for the patients of hemodialysis. Methods and Materials: Data collected from 209 hemodialysis patients in general hospital and dialysis clinics from February 28 to March 25, 2000. The questionnaires used for measuring the family support, self reported compliance of patient role behavior. Results: The results were summarized as follows: 1.The average of family support was 76.69 points. 2.The average of the compliance of patient role behavior was 73.92 points. 3.Family support was influenced by economic status, marital status, number of children. 4.Compliance of patient role behavior was influenced by age, religion, marital status, number of children. 5.The relationships between family support and compliance of patient role behavior showed a positive correlations. 6.Discriminant analysis result of family support was hit ratio 78.4%, compliance of patient role behavior was hit ratio 73.8% and variables were marital status, family system, duration of hemodialysis, level of education. Conclusions: The higher family support is the better patient do his role behavior, family support and compliance of patient role behavior are determined by various factors such as marital status, family system, duration of hemodialysis and level of education. Therefore, to maintain compliance of patient role behavior highly, the intercession way to improve family support efficiently and endure compliance of patient role behavior long term should be developed.
