CEO의 리더십 유형에 따른 기업의 위기관리 차이에 관한 연구

최근 모든 분야에 변화의 속도는 빨라지고 다양한 위기 또한 더욱 빈번하게 발생하고 있다. 이로 인해 위기관리 능력은 국가를 포함한 모든 조직의 생존에 직결되는 문제인 동시에 조직의 능력이라고까지 말할 수 있게 되었다. 일반적으로 기업의 경우, 위기는 경영을 책임지는 최고경영자(CEO: Chief Executive Officer)와 밀접하게 연계될 수밖에 없으며, 기업의 위기관리 대비 정도는 CEO의 리더십 유형에 따라 크게 좌우되고 있다. 이에 따라 위기관리에 대한 CEO의 리더십은 갈수록 중요해지고 있다. 외국에서는 위기관리와 리더십 사이의 상관관계에 대한 연구가 부분적으로 진행되고 있으나, 국내에서는 매우 미미한 상태이며, 지금까지 리더십과 위기관리에 대해 개별적으로 연구되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 CEO의 리더십 유형에 따라 기업의 위기관리에 대한 중요성인식과 대응수준은 어떠한 차이를 나타내는가를 연구문제로 설정하였다. 국내 200 여개 기업의 CEO의 리더십 유형과 위기관리 중요성인식과 대응수준을 설문조사 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 CEO의 리더십 유형별로 기업의 위기관리 대응에 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. Crisis management is one of the most important tasks of any business as business environments have been dramatically changed. In a sense the ability to manage crisis effectively is connected to the survival of any organization, whether it be a nation or company. In case of a company, the ability depends on CEO’s leadership styles. Though some research have internationally investigated the relationship between crisis management and CEO’s leadership styles, few research has dealt with the issue. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of CEO’s leadership styles in the perception of the importance of corporate crisis management and the level of crisis management. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to CEOs of various types of business and a total of 259 questionnaires were collected from them. But only 201 questionnaires were used for testing hypotheses after getting rid of incomplete ones. The result showed that CEO’s leadership styles have different roles in the issues raised in this study. Implications and further research suggestions were discussed.

Recently domestic companies have struggled to deal with different kinds of crisis accrued from various sources. However. their perception on the crisis and crisis management system are extremely vulnerable. In particular. although almost all companies have had many business related crisis. they have tended to ignore the crisis with simply considering it as unlucky and not to approach it provocatively in preparing some preventive measures and turning it into an opportunity due to the lack of recognizing the importance of risk management. In other words. domestic companies have not systematically prepared detailed plans for patential crisis. rather have tended to recognize the importance of having crisis management system after experiencing a detrimental crisis or accident. Furthermore research on the issue has conducted sparsely in the academic world. The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences among types of businesses in terms of the degree of crisis experienced previously, the perception on the importance of crisis management system. the level of crisis management implementation, and the areas of crisis management being focused in the future. Usable data was collected from 201 companies using an on-site survey. Data was analyzed with SPSS 21.0 using some descriptive statistics and a series of ANOVA (One-way Analysis of Variance). Results and implications were provided, along with some future research directions.
